You used to be able to run multiple instances of PuTTY Portable at once; this feature was removed in the latest version. Could we possibly get this back? Or is there a command line option or other way to tell the launcher that multiple instances are okay?
What do you mean? I just opened two instances of PuTTY Portable here.
What's the exact error message?
Previously known as kAlug.
I just updated all my apps yesterday, so this is whatever the latest version on the site was as of then.
"Another instance of PuTTY is already running. Please close other instances of PuTTY before launching PuTTY Portable."
The other instance is a PuTTY Portable, not a normal one running off the host machine or anything.
Delete

and try again.Previously known as kAlug.
I'm not sure what path you're talking about. I found a PuTTYPortable.ini file under App->AppInfo->Launcher but it wouldn't run with that renamed.
The only stuff under PuTTYPortable->Data is a settings folder.
Try a fresh install and ensure you are running PuTTYPortable.exe and not putty directly. I'm unable to run multiple instances without issue. ANd ensure you have the current 0.61 release.

I have just tried to run PortableApps PuTTYPortable.exe version 0.61 while a native chiark version of Putty.exe version 0.61 is running and I am receiving the same error.
"Another instance of PuTTY is already running. Please close other instances of PuTTY before launching PuTTY Portable."
Has anyone found a workaround?
This is by design as putty itself uses the registry (and only the registry) for settings and all versions of it use the same registry key. So two different versions with different settings can not run at the same time. A workaround would be to use KiTTY instead.

I like to use this portable app in citrix. The thing is, this putty version saves the session data in a file and not in the register. When a user loads the puttyportable on citrix he can see other persons connections. This is very handy for multiple helpdesk users who can update / view the same putty session list.
The problem is the same as described above. One user can start / load multiple instances, when another user (second citrix user) tries to run the puttyportable app published in citrix at the same time he gets the error message (there is already an instance running ...)
When we publish putty 0.61 without puttyportable it does works.
Kind Regards
Stijn
We don't support or test under citrix.
