Does anyone have any suggestions for speeding up Thunderbird Portable when running off of a USB flash drive? Right now, it takes about 3 seconds to delete an email message which is far too slow. An email message should take no time to delete. I'm running Thunderbird Portable on a year old Sony Vaio laptop which is equiped with XP Pro and USB 2.0 ports. My flash drive is also USB 2.0.

Most likely, you have a slower flash drive. They all say "USB 2.0" on em, but all that means is that they're compatible with USB 2.0. There's about a 40x difference between a faster flash drive and a slower one. And most of the cheaper ones are slow.
Sometimes, the impossible can become possible, if you're awesome!
40 to 1 is a very big spread. Are there any simple utilities available for measuring USB drive read and write times? Also, typically how fast is a high performance drive?
Thanks,
Richard

Thanks. The delete time for a single message dropped to under a second. Other activites still seem a bit pokey, but I'll need to run some more tests.
