Major problems with FF6

I got an automatic update from v5.01 to v6.0 today.
FF6 never started again and I don't no what the problem is.
Can I please have a clue how to solve this.
I have the same problem on all my machines, XP, Vista Win7...
This is all I get when starting:

XML-tolkningsfel: odefinierad entitet
Adress: chrome://browser/content/browser.xul
Radnummer 233, Kolumn 5:

Reinstall

I'd suggest reinstalling by downloading the Firefox Portable 6.0 installer and installing it over your current install. No need to manually uninstall or delete anything. All your data will remain intact.

Already done that

It didn't help at all!

The same goes for Thundebird (Does not work!).

So I guess that I have to run the older version instead of update them.
I am running on local HD but tomorrow I am going away for a week, then I copy the whole PortableApps folder to my 32 Gb USB Stick.

Keep Up The Good Work!

add-on / safe mode

In that case, it's an issue inside both your profiles. Are you using any kind of hacked add-on that isn't compatible with 6.0 but you made it be? Or did you disable the compatibility check or add the extension compatibility checker? Have you tried starting it in safe mode to ensure the app itself works ok with your extensions disabled? Are you using a FirefoxPortable.ini and, if so, have you tried starting it without it?

No Comp. check running...

I will try that one.
Safe mode is working.
Some extensions has been "hacked" to make them compatible with newer versions of FF and TB. (Crying.....)

I have the similar same probs with Thunderbird Sad

P.S. You are making a tremendous GOOD WORK!! I think that the problem comes from Mozilla! They are trying to make things faster, but instead other things gets slower (right now 9 hours work solving the problem). I have recommended MANY people running Portables so I am the one who gets the blame... Sad
I have also tried downloading directly from Mozilla, updating above the protables. Same problem. I think that there are some problems with some extensions. I haven't still not found which one of them. I no that there was some problems earlier with Foxtab. But now we have problems with Thunderbird to...
I am still searching here to find a solution.

KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK, Haller. The problem is NOT Yours!!!

Sincerely

Disable All, Enable Individually

You could try just disabling the ones you hacked first in safe mode and then restarting to ensure all the rest work. (failing that, disable everything) Then enable them individually to figure out which one has the issue. Most maintained extensions have kept up with version updates just fine. And Addons.Mozilla.org has a feature where it lets FF/TB know when an extension will work with the new version even though internally it says it won't. It's just the lesser-maintained extensions that have issues.

Can't even start in Safe mode

So... the problem is that I can't even start it in safemode because it don't even start.
I have to figure out to star it in Safemode (Portable)

Still working on this issue because my phone is ringing all the time right now.. Sad

EDIT:
I found out now how to start in FailSafe mode...
This does however not work since all the AddOns are there, BUT! I can only change them to Disable, not enable! But... they are already disabled in the firs time and all I can do is to disable them even more... strange...

We will have a meeting tomorrow and I already know the result. We will delete all portables everywhere on all computers because me and other consultants are too expensive and have already spent to may hours solving this problem.

Many computers can (several hundreds) can't even instal IE 9. Microsoft's support says: Reinstall the OS. NO WAY!!! These are things from the 80's, reinstalling the whole OS!!! No Way!!

We are going to Linux and Goggle Chrome.

I am sorry about this but this is the plain facts.
To much work for nothing. Blame it on Mozilla.

See ya all another day perhaps!!

Keep Up The Good Work!

Disable in safe mode then run normally

While in safe mode, Firefox disables all add-ons; once you go back to normal mode they'll be enabled again. If you disable them in safe mode, then they won't be enabled when you start them in normal mode.

So, disable them all in safe mode, then restart in normal mode and if it's working you can try enabling them and restarting, one by one (or do them a bunch at a time for ones you consider less likely to cause it). When it breaks, you can disable the offending add-on in safe mode, and continue refining if you haven't pinpointed the one which causes it at the time.

Blame it on Mozilla.Going a

Blame it on Mozilla.

Going a bit-off topic, but you really can't blame the problem on Mozilla until your remove the unstable extension or reset the profile, which seems to be the problem.

Edit: I'm guessing you're using the Sweden build of Firefox since the error is in Swedish, which I didn't realize until now. When translated, the error becomes "XML Parsing Error: undefined entity". This error is given when your Firefox install becomes corrupt, meaning something went wrong with the update. A reinstall has been reported to fix this issue, but strangely it hasn't for you.

As a general rule, you should

As a general rule, you should not update apps with their built in updaters. While some apps will update fine, some may fail the install, some may not work after the install, and others will break their portability after the install.

Unless told otherwise about an app, you should always upgrade via the Platform updater, or if using an older version of the platform, manually with the packages from this site.
