Just downloaded Notepad++ Portable Edition - and I have a thought.
All the files appear to be in the /app/Notepad++ directory. However, some of these files are settings files (the xml files). Shouldn't these files be in the /data/settings folder so that if you use John's backup utility to backup settings only your Notepad++ settings will be saved?
you can't change the location.

Notepad++ Portable Edition
I wanted to download RC2, but when I click download it sends me to SF, where it only has RC1. is it just a mistake on the name or does it not have RC2 yet?

Teen2: Are you being sarcastic, dude?
Teen1: I don't even know anymore.

Using RC2 under Vista RTM and it works perfect! Thank You!
I have a request but it is sorta 'off-topic', on the Notepad++ site there is a launcher (Notepad Replacement) you can download to effectively make Notepad++ the default text editor for windows. However this file no longer works under Vista. I noticed it is not a Auto-IT launcher but is instead a small c++ program. If its possible and not difficult can you also create a launcher to replace notepad.exe in the system folder that launchers Notepad++ from its default install directory?
but why would one want to? that's not exactly portable...
well this may sound confusing but I use an addon for nLite to integrate notepad++ into windows in such a way it completely replaces notepad.exe the reason I do this is because it inherits all the file associations. One problem with a portable launcher like this one is it can not inherit file associations and one must first start notepad++ and then open or drag/drop a file into it. Dont get me wrong though, I've been wanting a portable notepad++ since I started using it, and I indeed use it very often
Hi...
Sorry, but I only get a 404
Eddie
sorry about that, site's down for maintenance. It should all be back up within a day or two. If you want to check it out before then go to the sourceforge page @ http://sourceforge.net/projects/notepadpluspe

notepad++ is really great, i've just downloaded the portable edition. thumbs up!
dunno who, but someone told me n++ worked portably as-is. They lied. I was just living with a broken version (you could only have it full-screen or minimized). you have no idea how nice it was to see a resizeable window!
thx much!
now just to get a nice dark theme for editing.......

it IS portable out of the regular installer, just select the "don't use %APPDATA%" option during installation.
I've always just used the normal version of N++ and v3.9 for the last couple of weeks.
If I want to now use the portable version and not loose my configuration/history settings and pluging, do I simply overwrite all the non .exe & .dll files with their corresponding portable counterparts?
Thanks
Paul
yes you should be able to in theory.
but make a backup first in case it doesnt work.
But there’s no sense crying over every mistake,
You just keep on trying till you run out of cake.
There's a new version of Notepad++, Notepad++ v4.0, so could you update the bundled program? Btw, the launcher's File Desc is too long, it's cut by the menu limit, so could you lose the "Source Code Editor"? Other than that, it works fine
Works perfect to me!! And the number of features it´s simply amazing. I recommend Notepad++.
Tks.
just download the latest version and unzip, then put a folder in apps. it works very well. 3.9.0.0 is out of date
