Firefox 5 and 6

Please make Firefox 5 alpha
and Firefox 6 alpha portable.
It is good for testing Firefox (Alpha).

I am sure...

...That they will release those when the time comes. PA.c devs usually release development releases of Mozilla Firefox, just be patient.

I'm tired of people living in their fantasy world when the clock is ticking away, and when they are unable to see reality for what it is.

no changes yet

They're so early in the dev cycle that there are no real changes to test yet. This is very different from previous firefox alphas which had lots of new things to test. The difference is due to the accelerated release schedule.

Porta set-up for Aurora and Nightlies...

John, Do y'all have plans to establish portable applications for the Fx 5.0 & 6.0???
Seems that I still can't get profile manager to recognize the different versions without a cluster buck...the portables over the past couple of years seem to work around that issue which in turn causes me not to attend anger management classes, LOL...Please work your magic for us masses and hook us up with nightlies...Again, you and your crue are awesome, please keep up the great work.

Nightly, Aurora and Beta

Development branches of Firefox are not called alpha, but:
- Nightly - unstable, curently 6.x - files at mozilla.org
- Aurora - more stable, currently 5.x - files at mozilla.org
- Beta - almost stable, currently 4.x - files at mozilla.org

They are

"Nightly 6.0 Alpha 1" and "Aurora 5.0 Alpha 2" are what the current versions are labelled.

Thanks

Thanks for correction. I forgot about that.
So, Beta - 4.x Beta, Aurora - 5.x Alpha, Nightly - 6.x Alpha.

It would be great if Aurora will also be released by PortableApps, except of Beta and Stable.

(Mozilla have published a page, from which all branches of Firefox can be downloaded -
mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/channel)

No Beta

Except that there's no current Beta release, as 4.0 has been released.

True... but 4.0.1 has been pushed out on beta?!

I noticed on both my laptop and main machines that Firefox 4 updated to 4.0.1, due to the fact I was part of the beta program. When I reinstalled the release version of Firefox 4 (whilst testing some unattended install scripts), it no longer picks up 4.0.1 as an option (to upgrade to). Weird!

so that's why...

Firefox on my MacBook Pro was showing as version 4.0.1, but Firefox Portable refused to update to that.

I meant to ask here, but never got around to it/kept forgetting.

Channels

There's an internal channel setting in Firefox itself that keeps track of this. Updates will be pushed to beta users first to ensure they work then to everyone else.

by "in Firefox itself"...

Do you mean the actual app and not the profile? If I overwrite the app but not the profile, will it not see me as a beta tester?

I think it's in the profile in about:config somewhere.

Yes

We get notices about new firefox releases and will make them portable. It might take a little longer with some betas as they arent as relevant as other stuff.

Replacing Firefox 4 with Aurora

See this post
http://www.techbirdy.com/2011/03/05/how-to-make-firefox-portable/

Download Firefox from:
http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/channel/

Extract with Winrar and copy all files from "core" folder to "Firefox" folder on "Firefox 4 Portable"

To prevent that when you upgrade does not overwrite Firefox 4:
Rename "FirefoxPortable4" folder to "FirefoxAurora" or "FirefoxPortable5"
Rename "FirefoxPortable.exe" from "FirefoxAurora" folder to "FirefoxAuroraPortable.exe"

fx-tools - download portable Aurora & Nightly

I have created tool which can download Aurora and Nightly builds of Firefox and replace files of Mozilla Firefox, Portable Edition.

First, download official portable version of Firefox from PA.c
Then, download fx-tools.zip and place unpacked folder next to App and Data folders, so the tree will look like this:

App
Data
Other
fx-tools
    7za.exe
    download-aurora.bat
    download-nightly.bat
    wget.exe
FirefoxPortable.exe
help.html

You can rename fx-tools folder freely.

If you want to replace Firefox build included in the official PA.com release with Aurora, you must open downloaded folder and run download-aurora.bat. If you want to download Nightly run download-nightly.bat. This tools will download latest version of, respectively, Aurora or Nightly (from ftp.mozilla.org) to App\Firefox folder.

If you want to download localized version of Firefox (in your language), do this:

  • if you want Aurora - edit download-aurora.bat. Then replace latest-mozilla-aurora with latest-mozilla-aurora-l10n and en-US with your language code. Then run download-aurora.bat.
  • if you want Nightly - edit download-nightly.bat. Then replace latest-mozilla-central with latest-mozilla-central-l10n and en-US with your language code. Then run download-nightly.bat.

[Links removed; Angel contains Mozilla branding without permission, (b) we don't want non-canonical sources for these things anyway - mod Chris]
[Links back (but not the same links); Now there are only my two scripts and two open source tools in download and nothing has Mozilla branding. Files from "non-canonical source" will be downloaded only if user will run the script. This utility does almost the same thing as OneTarget described one post above.]

FF, SM, Chrome... & portable filemanager / Db managers

If you can't tell from my header I like Firefox & love portable, Seamonkey wish there was a portable with a self contained profile manager with it, and SrWare/ChromePlus. I like my greasemonkey/scriptish and I really like the Gears concept. I think Gears especially with the ability to run SQL could be really useful. I looked it over and if it could easily run python with that same kind of power that would be wonderful. The thing I truly like the most though is the XUL bundle for FF & SM and was wondering if there was a way to modify a current portable explore++, freeCommander, or A43 to use the XUL engine to make a more flexible machine. Was wondering if TugZip or 7-Zip would be a good starting place. Just some thoughts.

To convert the applications

To convert the applications you listed into using XUL you will need to rewrite the entire program from scratch. This will require extensive programming knowledge and a large amount of your time.

To add in, explore++ is the only possible application you can do this with, since the other two are frereware and do not have their source code a available.
