Release Notes:
Development Test 2 (2010-09-17):
- Updated GCstar to 1.6.1
Development Test 1 (2010-06-19): Initial release
This looks like a really interesting application, and it should be a popular addition to PortableApps.com.
I have tried to run it now on both Vista and XP systems. It started and ran successfully only on the first run on my Vista box, and will not start at all on an XP box.
I haven't attempted to troubleshoot, but suggest that you consult the guru's in the PortableApps forums or on the IRC channel to help.
Regards,
Kim

Regarding that issue, I believe it has something to do with the PATH setting, but I'm not positive yet. I'll keep trying.

I just tried it on XP, and it will not start even a 1st time.
I downloaded it and installed to desktop. Would not run (XP SP3) I then executed the actual program and it ran fine. Did a little searching. Did you write your own launcher? Just curious. What I did do was to create a folder named Launcher in the AppInfo folder. I then copied over your GCStarPortable.ini file from th eOther folder. I also copied over the splash.jpg file. It now starts from the launcher. I then copied the whole folder to my PA drive. Works now from menu?
Not sure if this helps or not?

Actually, this uses the same launcher that my Warzone 2100 Portable one did, so I can't see this being an issue with the launcher. I'll have to keep trying. Any further help would be great.

is what I did to make it work. Perhaps if you were to try using the PortableApps Launcher and use it's hierarchy of files? Basically that is what I did?

shouldn't line 28 be:
Line 110 suggests it should be.
Or I guess you could change that line to be:
Oh and I think you can delete uninst.exe.
Thanks. I'll upload a fix tomorrow.

I changed the line 110 and yeah, the app ran. but the saved collection and It's files go to the root of the drive that you are running the portable app.
The portable MUST save the collections in it's DATA folder (I recommend in a folder for example DB or DataBase)and when loading from another drive, look for that collection in DATA folder again.
I'm working to fix this issue.
Whether you think you can or you can not, eather way you are right.

I released a fix. The update to 1.6.1 appears to have fixed the issue.

that was one long day
And because your the dev of Warzone 2100, why don't you have the little icon next to your name?
Hehe it sure was. Also, I've asked about that before, but I've never gotten an answer, and to be honest it irritates me. But oh well. It'll be solved eventually I hope.

I don't know who added the hammer icon, but I sincerely thank you.

Chris noticed you hadn't been set as a developer yet, so I set you as one last night. So now you're on the team page and all your posts in the forums and comments on stories show with the developer icon (a hammer).

Awesome! Thanks.

Sorry for answering to a very old post, but I'd like to know where I can grab this fix Billy227 wrote. Could anyone help me please ?
Currently, the app won't start if launched from the PortableApps menu, but can be launched from the .exe in the folder...
I love this program, so thanks for considering it for Portable Apps. But there's some kind of problem that I detected using originally the installed version, I tried to post this on the forums of the software but unfortunately they don't accept requests anymore, and I mailed the dev and never replied me back. If you create a database, and you create a Group (one of those tabs that contain several info fields) one of your own, and you happen to use some special characters (like &) in the title of said tab, next time you want to open your database, the program will give you this error:
I know it may sound trivial, but when I first used GCstar, I created a large database only to have to delete it because of this error, and when it comes to details I'm a little nazi. There's also the small detail that when I want to write anything at all in any field in the interface, I have to left press shift because if I use a letter who happens to be a hotkey (like o, N, R, or T) the program will instead activate that hotkey. Everything else works for me, including GTK theming and net databases, I don't know why this program is still under beta test. My system is Windows 7x86 by the way.
