Hi all,
Could someone tell me, please, if it is possible to update the Portable Apps launcher platform, if so, how to do this?
I have two installations - I think one is version 2 and the other version 3.

Just download it from the download link at the top of the page and install it right over the old one. All you settings and apps will be preserved.

Sorry for my intrusion, but i had the version 1.6.1 before, now I have installed the last release v. 3, thinking that the installar would override the first version, as you say (if I understand correctly).
But now I have 2 Start.exe, one in E:\ drive (the new version) and the other one in E:\PortableApps\ (the old version).
So when I launch the new Start.exe in E:\, the menu is empty, it doesn't see the applications.
Indeed I have 2 directory now:
1) E:\PortableApps\PortableApss (with all the apps)
2) E:\PortableApps.com (with a new directory App)
What can I do now? This is a mess!
Maybe it's better to download the new version of all applications too, so to start again from the beginning. But I lose all configuration in this way, I don't care so much, exept for mails and browser.
Have I just to copy profiles in the new directories of Thunderbird and Firefox?
Also, I would like to have everything in the same directory, I mean Documents, the launcher (Start.exe), and Autorun.inf. Can I?
PS: I installed portableapps in my internal hard disk, not on a pendrive.
This should help you:
1. Close everything. All apps, all copies of the platform.
2. Delete the E:\PortableApps.com directory (but not the PortableApps one) and the E:\Start.exe and E:\autorun.inf files
3. Rename E:\PortableApps to E:\OldPortableApps
4. Move everything in folder E:\OldPortableApps\ to E:\ That would include the Documents and PortableApps directories in there as well as the StartPortableApps.exe and autorun.inf files.
5. Ensure that the E:\OldPortableApps directory is now empty and delete it
6. Download and run the installer for the new platform. It should automatically detect your existing platform and ask to upgrade it.
What happened is you installed the old platform in a sub-directory instead of the root directory of the drive. Lots of people do it as the installer doesn't properly tell you that that's where it should go. This will be remedied in an upcoming release.

I was curios to do an experiment e tell the installer wich was the "right" directory, so E:\PortableApss. But I didn't want to create other new problems and then ask you an help again.
I just don't like to have scattered files or directory everywhere on my drives.
But it doesn't matter for now. Expecially if you say that it will be remedied in an upcoming release.

By remedied, I mean the installer will select the root by default. You can still customize it to another location if you wish. It won't automatically move your stuff back to the root (as I outlined the manual steps to do above).

You can upgrade your existing install just by selecting E:\PortableApps\ in the installer in the new platform.

I've done that twice (2 different sticks) and seem to have NO programs installed in my platform. ??Should I be relocating the apps folders from the root to one of the new folders (PortableApps or PortableApps.com)??

You have to install to the same place you installed last time. You're *supposed* to install to the root directory. X:\ So in the root you've have Documents, PortableApps, autorun.inf and StartPortableApps.exe (Start.exe in the new platform). So, when you upgrade, you install to the EXACT same place. If you installed to X:\PortableApps, so that StartPortableApps.exe was in that directory, you should install to there. If you installed to X:\Software so StartPortableApps.exe was in there, you should install to there.

I think it's already too late for that; what I've got is the PortableApps,PortableApps.com and Documents folders in the root ALONG WITH each of my various portable application folders (separately. I wanted to attach a picture of the Explorer window, but see no way to attach a file.

How the heck did you manage that? The PortableApps.com directory is supposed to be in the PortableApps directory for one. It won't even install that way.
I'd *highly* suggest the following:
1. Close everything
2. Backup the drive
3. Create a PortableApps directory in the root of the drive if it doesn't already exist
4. Move all individual app folders (FirefoxPortable, PidginPortable, etc) into the X:\PortableApps directory so you're left with X:\PortableApps\FirefoxPortable etc where X is the current drive letter
5. If you have any apps inside the X:\PortableApps.com, move them to X:\PortableApps as well
6. Remove the PortableApps.com directory
7. Install the PortableApps.com Platform 'Next' PR3 to the root directory (X:\)
8. Fire it up and it should detect all your installed apps
