GVNotifier Alternatives?

I'd somehow downloaded and made GVNotifier run portably by following the instructions on GVNotifier: Dave Amenta.com. However, lately it won't successfully log me in so I've been looking for alternatives.

Has anyone with PA.com built similar PA software; i.e. direct text messaging via a Google Voice IM client??

If so ... can someone point me in the right direction because I can no longer figure out how to make GVNotifier run portably, nor will it log me in successfully.

Thanks!

I looked at GVNotifier's site

It says it requires .NET 3.5.

GVNotifier Alternatives? [SOLVED] (via Pidgin IM)

Okay so there was something called GVXMPP that was a work in progress but it turned out to be a dead end. What I found instead was PERFECT for anyone using Google Voice SMS services ...

GVMax is a service that creates a filter in your Gmail account that pushes any text/SMS messages through your Gmail account to your Pidgin IM client. All that is required is that you register your Google Voice account through the GVMax website.

One suggestion I would make though is; once you've registered your account through GVMax, go into your filter settings in the associated Gmail account and edit the GVMax custom filter to delete all text/SMS messages after pushing it to Pidgin otherwise, you'll have a HUGE log of all the SMS messages in your Gmail account.

It works really well but you can't just text anyone from your GV contact list via Pidgin until they've texted you first. When someone texts you and it pops up on Pidgin, they're automatically put into a group called "GVMax". Once they've done this, they will appear 'online' permanently so that you can text them from Pidgin later. Because they are listed online from that point forward, I simply fold up the group list 'GVMax' until I need to text someone from it, then I just drop it down, select the contact I wish to text and begin typing.

This service is by far THE MOST useful EVER if you don't want to text from your phone every time you are at your computer and your phone is blowing up with texts.

Cheers!
