I used to launch OpenOffice Portable from my Win XP desktop. This does now work with LibreOffice Portable any more: an error message complaining on spaces in launch path is displayed (C:\Documents and Settings\username\Desktop\...)
Does anybody happen to know what might be the reason of such a change in behaviour? Is it a PortableApps or a LibreOffice issue?

It's LibreOffice itself. OpenOffice.org used to have the same issue. So, rather than just having LibreOffice crash without error (which happens with spaces in the data path) we're having the launcher display a friendly warning.

Yes, this is what I have suspected. On the other hand, the OpenOffice 3.x worked OK... I do not like spaces in path myself as well, but one cannot choose on Win XP without admin privileges
On most XP installations, you can create a new directory in C:\ itself called PortableApps and go from there. The exception is locked down environments where you only have access to My Documents, of course. But then, in those cases, I think the path is too long for LO Portable or OO.o Portable to install to as it would exceed the path length limit.

Yes, the C: drive root in or Computer Lab's machines was not protected. Worked OK, thanks a lot!

This is also a problem to me: All my Portable Apps (and i have a lot) are located in a path which contains a space. No app except LibreOffice has a problem with it. I would have to make an exception for LibreOffice.
There is another way to get LibreOffice portable which works indeed with spaces. It is described here:

Unfortunately LibreOffice tends to start in 8-9 seconds with this method whereas LibreOfficePortable tends to start in just 2-3 seconds.
That is the reason why iam stick to Openoffice Portable 3.2.
We have a fix that we're testing internally and seems to work properly for LibreOffice Portable.

At least, this fix work for me. Thanks a lot. So imho the posts in this thread which claims, that LibreOffice itslef has the problem is not true - its just a launcher thing or a thing, how args are passed, isnt it?
Nevertheless, the fix tends to slow down starting LibreOffice. This is just an impression and not an exact measurement. In my opinion LibreOffice started in 2-3 seconds before and now (by adding the fix) it needs 4-5 seconds. Am i right?

It is a LibreOffice issue as it can't handle a space in that variable due to a bug in the LibreOffice code somewhere. The $ORIGIN method of switching it isn't officially recommended... and the relative paths 'hack' may cause some issues internally within LibreOffice or in some add-ons, so it was something we were planning on testing thoroughly before making official. It worked when we tested it previously, but we didn't have time for a full public test before the 3.3.4/3.4.3 release. We'll be awaiting the results of testing before adding it in. So please post a note to the testing topic of how it worked for you
