Ultra VNC viewer

Hello

It appears there is no up to date ultravnc viewer app, and in the "manage apps" section none is listed.

Is it possible to get this added?

I realize that for this to occur then someone must go to the trouble of getting it done. If no-one is available then brief instruction on how to make an app portable and how to submit it to portable apps afterwards to be included for everyone to benefit would be appreciated. I will give it my best go and see what happens Smile

Not PAF

For starters, that's not in PortableApps.com Format.

Correct

Its a binary, that's not exactly the same as a portable app. Also if a new version comes out it wouldn't be "managed" by portablepps and therefore updated automatically.

If noone is prepared to do this, then brief pointers from someone who has done it before would be great so that I can avoid any common pitfalls. Also how does one get the app "included" into the portable apps repo once done?

OK

First, install the app and check what it does: where settings are saved, if you can make it run in a sort of "portable mode", etc.
Then download the Portable App Template and follow the instructions in template-readme.txt (and also change the **AppID** in Other\Source\Readme.txt to the correct value).
Now create the launcher.ini file with the necessary instructions (see here for an example).
By last, generate the launcher and the installer, upload it somewhere (e.g. MediaFire), and create a topic in the Beta Testing forum.
If you have any doubts while doing it, post here or join the IRC channel (for possibly faster answers). Also remember to check the Development section.

Thanks

That got me started and I ended up with this:

Can you check it and tell me what you think? Next steps?

Should get it's own thread in the "Beta Testing" Forum; Dev Test

I haven't downloaded & tested this yet, but if you want people to notice it (and by extension download & test it) then you'll want to make a new thread for it in the Beta Testing Forum (Please follow the standard Development Test: Forum Posting Layout).

Also, unless this is an Official PortableApps.com App then it should be versioned, and labeled as a "Development Test".

Edit: When I posted this, I hadn't noticed This Other Thread which covers my first point, and This Comment on That Thread by Pyromaniac which covers my second point, plus more since he's actually tested it.

Thanks

No further discussion required here, I have now replied to the other thread.
