Curiousity killed the cat?

Wow PortableApps has been busy as of late with all the updated apps, as well as the updates being made to the platform. Has the acceptance of new apps been put on a back burner? Are we waiting for another Month to remember? Just wondering??

Time

As stated previously, new apps are on hold while the platform work is being done and the site upgrade is being worked on. Updating apps is far more time-consuming than it should be as everything is manual. Adding apps is even more time-consuming. So, the more apps we add, the more work is spend adding apps and then updating those apps in addition to all the work updating all the existing apps. More of that, and we'd never be able to upgrade the site or the platform or add more apps as it would fill all available time.

Thanks

I figured that was the case but I guess until I asked I would never have known for sure. I appreciate your efforts and your honesty

Others?

Have you considered others to help lighten the load of updating portable apps? Like give them permission to add stuff to the directory as well? With the major developments on the horizon, I'm sure PortableApps.com will need to have more peeps on the "inside" to help with the manual labor.

Yes and No

For the official releases of stuff we do, we're going to need people internally because they'll be using the corporate code signing certificate. What we really need is people to actually update their own apps in a timely fashion and send them in to be signed when new versions are available (in a day or two) and a group of people to act as a release team to make new apps easy. One of the biggest issues is that I wind up doing everyone's updates because they forget or it's been a few days and it looks bad that we haven't updated.

I have an idea: Instead of

I have an idea: Instead of catching up the backup, you could "bunny-hop" to have at least 4000+ apps, Similar to Firefox when they decided to jump their version number to 4, 5, 6, 7, etc.
