I am confused... I checked version through Help/About Firefox and accidentally pressed "check for updates". But it actually updated FF to version 7.0.1
How is that possible?

This will update Firefox to 7.0.1. The problem is, what if we update the launcher?
Previously known as kAlug.
The bug that prevented Firefox from updating itself was fixed back in the 3.6.x line. Just know that his doesn't update the FirefoxPortable.exe launcher, so be cautious about using the built-in updater (for Firefox).
That's exactly what the guys at Mozilla had in mind, when they designed that function.
This is possible with many other apps, too, but FF and TB belong to the few of them that normally won't break.
I don't completely understand. So we can update firefox through the FF menu update..but if we do it won't upload the launcher? What Launcher and why is the launcher needed?
FirefoxPortable.exe and all the bits associated with Firefox Portable that help make Firefox portable are not updated when you use Firefox's built-in updater. For example, the automated support for jPortable portable Java runtime environment was introduced in the Firefox Portable 7.0 launcher. If you used Firefox's built-in updater to update from 6 to 7, Firefox would be updated, but you won't have that new feature of the launcher since the Firefox install within Firefox Portable was updated, but Firefox Portable itself was not updated.

Thank you for explaining that. So it's important to grab the whole portableapps program and install it whenever there is an update.
So, if you accidentally use the built-in Firefox updater, and you want to have FFP updated, is it simply sufficient to then run the Platform's updater to do the correct update?
How will that affect your settings and plugins?
I made this half-pony, half-monkey monster to please you.
Settings and plugins are always safe regardless of upgrade method or manually doing an in-place upgrade.

So John, after I did the accidental update through FF menu, I after that downloaded and installed the latest portableapps FF and installed it into the same folder. Is that enough to fix it?
