PortableApps on smaller screens/resolutions

Hello.

I was wondering if there were any plans for PortableApps platform to support computers with unusually low resolutions.

I have a UMPC that has a native resolution of 800x480, and I've noticed that the launcher window as well as the update select window is too tall to fit the screen. Unfortunately, Windows doesn't have the ALT+Drag feature that window managers on Linux have, so I can only pull the window up by the title bar and I still can't reach the buttons below in the updater window.

I've added two screenshots to demonstrate what I'm talking about:

PortableApps2.png

As you can see, the updater window height is pretty big and there's quite a lot of empty space in the middle. It would help a ton if the program could reduce that height if the screen resolution is smaller than that.

I don't really need a workaround for this, unless it's something other than increasing the resolution through the display tool in the tray, or pressing ALT+N for the out-of-range "Next" button. This post is more of a suggestion for the devs to consider the option of PCs with smaller screens. People affected by this are probably in the vast minority, so I wouldn't be surprised if they choose not to, but I still wanted to bring this up just in case.

Big thanks to everyone who works on PA, by the way, this is an amazing project that I hope will grow into something even bigger.

800x600

800x600 is really the minimum screen size that most things work with these days, so we designed our stuff based on that. The updater/app store isnt' resizable due to the language it is coded in. The menu isn't resizable because of the way theming works. An upcoming version of the platform will allow for different sized menus. And there is something we can do for the updater/app store as well. I'll put it on the list, but it may not be done in time for 'Next' final... soon after though. If you keep the taskbar set for auto-hide (which you should at that size screen), can you see the lower part of the updater? (Nevermind, I just checked and you can't)

Sometimes, the impossible can become possible, if you're awesome!

Thanks

Many thanks for the response.

The reason I keep the taskbar always visible on such a small screen is that the UMPC has a stylus (or finger) controlled touchscreen, which is more comfortable to use than the tiny touchpad on the right side when the device sits on my desk. If I was to hide the taskbar, I wouldn't be able to bring it back up without a mouse or touchpad assistance.

The device looks like this: http://www.gigabyte.com/products/product-page.aspx?pid=2506#sp

Side note

To move a window that is too large to be moved with a mouse, you can use Alt+Space and than M (for "move"). This enables you to move the window around (regardless of the desktop boundaries) using the arrow keys to see the rest of the window. Unfortunately, when you press enter (to "release" the window) it will return to the position that makes the lower part of the title bar visible, so you still can't really use the lower part of the window, but at least you have seen what its "inaccessible" part contains (e.g. in order to know what keys to press or what will happen if you press "Enter").
