Hi
I got a 128MB USB Memory Stick that I need for school. I'm wondering if there's a program available that will log the IP Address, time and date of every access of the device.
e.g. If anyone inserted it into a PC, it would automatically send me an e-mail with the IP Address of the computer and the time and date that it was accessed.

I could think about writing a small script for you to do that and you could set it to autorun but I'd need some info
1. What e-mail client does your school use?
2. What OS does it use?

It has Outlook Express, but I don't think any of them are set up.
Would it be possible to send the e-mail through PHP? I've seen some online forms where you just type in the info and it sends it to the person. Similar to what CNN ( http://www.cnn.com/feedback/forms/form2a.html?1 ) have. If you know what I mean

At he moment it autoruns and adds the username, ip and date to a hidden text file. If that sounds ok for starters I'll up load the code later.
I now have a completely working version (at last). I have applied for a sourceforge area for it and should find out tomorrow. When I do I'll upload the software and post the link here.

Windows doesn't process autorun.inf automatically on USB devices... so there's no "stealthy" way to do it. Even if you used the "action=" line in autorun.inf, the person inserting the key would have to know to double-click "do so and so (using the program provided on the drive)" in the AutoPlay dialog.
Oh dosent it? I guess I should take nothing for granted but I'm sure I have seen it done before. Damn.
Are you still going to release the program?
I don't care if it's not truely 'portable' I just want something to log the access of people using the USB MS;P

As far as an emailer, if size isn't a worry, you could modify the Uniform Server (http://www.uniformserver.com/) to only have PHP/Apache and no MySQL/Perl/etc. and have there be a PHP mailer script. (You could also try a modification of Abyss Web Server, which is smaller.)
