[Fixed] Platform not exitin

I just upgraded to the new pre-release of the Platform, pre-release 4, now when I try to close the launcher like i had always did before, using the close "x" icon, it won't close.
I have already closed all my portable apps, but it still will not close. I have to have Windows force close it. I have tried this on two different UFDs (two different brands), but I have the same issue. I am running Windows 7 Pro, no issue with previous releases.

Any ideas would be appreciated.

Thanks.

[Title reference changed from "Launcher" to "Platform" - mod Chris]

Using a Dock?

Are you using a nonstandard dock or something else at the bottom of your screen? They have a habit of having invisible forms that block other things. Have you tried moving the menu (click and drag the PortableApps.com logo) to another part of the screen and then closing it? You can also right-click on the PA.c logo in the system tray or, on Windows 7, the task bar.

Sometimes, the impossible can become possible, if you're awesome!

No dock

Thank you for the reply.
No, I am not using a nonstandard dock. I tried right clicking along with moving to another area of my desktop, same issue.

120dpi

Does the menu look funny at all? Is your display set to 120dpi? When you right-click in the system tray icon, does the context menu with Exit/Eject/etc come up? Is the options window or about window shown at all? Also which OS are you on and what path did you install to? When you hover over the eject and exit buttons, do they highlight?

No, I am not on 120 dpi. My

No, I am not on 120 dpi. My OS is Windows 7 Professional.
I see all the right click menu options fine. The exit/eject come up, but the about or options menu are not on the right click menu, only when I go into the launcher itself normally.
When I hover over the eject and exit buttons, they do highlight, and the only difference I see in the menu is the dock and system tray icon of this version looks more glossy, although I was guessing this is a new icon for the launcher.

Edited to add: I just tried re-installing the Launcher, same issue.

More Information

Can people experiencing this provide some more information, please:

When does this occur? Right after launching?
If you start the platform with Start.exe, wait for it to come up and then hit X without running any apps or anything else does it close?
When you click the X button, does the pressed-down state of the button show up?
What OS are you on and what path are you installed to?
How is your drive formatted, NTFS/FAT32/exFAT?
Have you tried installing a clean version, temporarily, somewhere else, like right to your desktop? Does that work?
Is anything else running on your system that you could think of that could interfere with it?

I can't reproduce this issue on any OS. I ran it on Windows 2000, Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows 7 x64, and Wine running under Ubuntu 11.10 and it worked as expected under all of them.

Same issue. Right after

Same issue.

Right after launching.
I start the platform with Start.exe, wait for it to come up and then hit X without running.
When I click the X button, always in tray icon, and process always running. But can not reopen without killing the process.
OS: Vista 64 bits. PortableApps Platform on E:.
All in NTFS.
No tried.

I updated, then change the options.
After this big bug, I put the previous test version on the installing version.
It works just fine with the options of the new test version, but version recognized as that of the previous one (whithout scrollbar, etc).

Reopen?

What do you mean can not reopen and what about the tray icon? When the menu comes up and you click the graphical close button in the menu with the X, does it close? If it does not, what do you mean you can't reopen it? Could you walk me through the steps one at a time, maybe do a screenshot or two? Also what old version are you using?

The graphic window is

The graphic window is well-closed.
But the tray icon, it isn't. (doesn't disappear)
Then I can't reopen the first, and can't kill process by the second. Only by the task manager of Windows.
Screenshots whith PR4? (Maybe tommorow for it)
Issue only whith PR4.
Install PR3 on PR4 repair it without change PR4'S options previously selected.

I observed the same problem

I observed the same problem yesterday but didn't look into it too much since it was a prerelease.

Windows 7 Professional x64 SP1.

I both tried the X and tried selecting Exit from the tray, both had no effect. I had to force kill the process.

Interestingly the tray menu was RTL the first time I right clicked it. Very odd. Probably unrelated though.

Drive is FAT32, drive letter was X:.

I can't test any more at the moment, at work.

PR3?

Did pre-release 3 work for you on the same machine? I'm still trying to figure out how this could even occur since I can't reproduce it anywhere and the eject/close routines haven't changed at all since PR3, so I'm grasping for anything possibly related.

I'm not sure if I upgraded

I'm not sure if I upgraded from PR2 or 3. But the last release I tried seemed to work fine IIRC.

I'll mess around a bit with it at home, maybe hook up Process Monitor to it, see if I can figure out what's going on.

I am running a 32-bit version

I am running a 32-bit version of Win 7 Pro, my USB drive letter is E:
The Start.exe file is on the root of the drive.
I tried installing portable apps on my desktop directly, same issue. I can click x and it does highlight, however it locks, and I have to force close the process.
My USB drive is FAT32 (being that is a 32Gb drive) my 2nd drive is also FAT32 an 8Gb drive.
If you need any screen shots, let me know where to send them.

Possible Issue

I think I have an idea what the issue could be. It would seem that some other app in your system has a window up that is not properly responding to the platform's broadcast message that fonts have changed. In less technical terms, the platform sends out a note to everything running saying "Hey, fonts may have changed, you should check that out". It then waits for the apps to say "Ok". A misbehaving app won't respond to this. So we'll need to work around it.

Try this. Close/Kill the platform and then rename the PortableAppsPlatform.exe to PortableAppsPlatformOriginal.exe in your PortableApps\PortableApps.com directory. Then download PortableAppsPlatformTimeoutMsg.exe, rename it to PortableAppsPlatform.exe and place it in the same directory. Then try running the platform and exiting. Did that work? If not, try downloading PortableAppsPlatformNoMsg.exe and rename and place in the same location. Did that work?

PortableAppsPlatformNoMsg.exe worked for me.

Thank you for all of your help.

Timeout?

Did you try the timeout one, too? Did that work?

I did, but that wasn't

I did, but that wasn't immediate. Maybe I should show more patience, but it took about five-ten seconds to finally close.

They both work, but Timeout

They both work, but Timeout is much delayed. Either you have a large timeout or many windows are blocking on my system and you're timing out for each one...

Use PostMessage to send that

Use PostMessage to send that message. The call will immediately return without waiting for a return value... which I can't see you needing in this case. If a window never processes the message, oh well. Chances are it's a hung process anyway so who cares.

Fixed in Next Pre-Release 4.1

This has been fixed in Pre-Release 4.1. It was due to some unresponsive local apps not properly responding. It's been coded around. If you are experiencing this issue, you can either manually download and run the installer or use the built-in updater and then kill the platform with Task Manager when you are prompted to close it.
