On my Windows XP computer the X button is unresponsive. The PortableApps icon remains permanently in the system tray, but does toggle the menu on and off when clicked. The icon cannot be disabled to allow the USB flash drive to be "safely removed" while the computer is running.
I only learned the proper performance of the menu and the icon when I plugged the drive into another computer. There is one other discrepancy that may or may not be related: the nine items on the right half of the menu do not fit and bleed off to the right - on my computer. Any ideas?
You have the monitor set to a hi res and large size? The beta fixed that for me

Well, with a little help from friends, I went to Display Properties, Advanced and found that my display was set to 120 dpi to enlarge fonts and icons when using the sharp native resolution of 1280x1024. The PortableApps site had already suggested this could cause certain other screen problems. I followed up by changing to 96 dpi, and the problem disappeared.
However, the font is awfully tiny at 96 dpi, so I may go back to 120 and put up with the inability to disable my Portable Apps drive until I shut down.

Grab the beta menu that's linked to right from the Suite main page. It's compatible with 120dpi.
A new release of the suite (with this menu) is being posted next week. The upgrade will be easy.
Sometimes, the impossible can become possible, if you're awesome!
Awesome I`ll be sure to download it
