When I click Start Port Apps) in USB Folder/File, it crashes: Internet Explorer has encountered a problem...

Hello, when I try to use my USB/Port Appps on my XP PC, I plug it in and it comes up and I select "view files" and then select the Grey-white swoosh arrow circle START PA icon and I get: Internet Explorer has encountered a problem... and nothing happens except it wants to send Problem info to MSN. (this is in Portable Apps.com (F:) ) I can open a seperate folder in location (F:) which is the individual Portable Apps folder with containing folders (ClamWin, SpyBot Portable, Firefox and run from there but on my other PC I put in the USB, it loads up and puts an Icon in the tray from which I can launch all that.. can someone please tell me what is going on?
Thank you,

Run Start.exe

You need to open the drive and run Start.exe. The ability to use autorun/autoplay no longer works with USB drives.

Run Start Exe

Mr. Haller, please forgive my ignorance, can you explain this a little more for me? Before I upgrade my PA a couple of days ago and upgraded Firefox version, this USB would bring up the launch button in the tray and when clicked on would launch the PA app which had a short menu of Firefox, Clamwin, and recently installed Spybot SandD portable. Now that method is gone, no Icon in tray for starting PA's, and no PA menu. I really like this application and have had problems in the past, have totally reinstalled etc, but it seems once I get it all dialed in something changes and it gets all whacky.
Thank you,
Golly Darn It

Now what did I do to this thing...?:)

Open Explorer

When you plug the drive in, you either need to select View Files from the autoplay prompt or open Windows Explorer and browse to the root directory of the drive. When you do that, you'll see a couple folders (PortableApps and Documents) as well as Start.exe. Run start.exe by double-clicking it to start the platform.

We used to have Start PortableApps.com as one of the prompts in the autoplay menu. Microsoft has disabled the ability to do this in all supported Windows operating systems in an attempt to prevent malware from spreading via USB drives.

How did MSN do it... must have been one of the last updates...

I wonder if I did a system restore back a few weeks if it would negate the Kabosh on launching the way it did before?

Oh, now I get it!

Mr. Haller, thank you for the explanation.. MSN stopgap to head off the bad guys. Ok, so it works the way it works now.... MSN plugging hole in the dyke- I marvel at the house of cards. Too bad, I liked it the original way.
