Hello
I would like to see WinCDEMU as a portable app. It is a tool that allows you to mount and unmount ISO images under Windows. It's really useful for netbook owners who don't have a CD drive, or for those who don't wish to risk scratching their CD's.
See here:-
If you want to download a portable version, it is available for download here:-

The portable version is already released under sourceforge, and is already portable. All it would need is tweaking with a splash screen and repackaged up to make it an "official" portable app
so its not truely portable.
Damn... that a shame it needs admin rights.
Does anybody know of a program such as this that allows mounting of ISO images under Windows which
a) doesn't save or write settings
b) doesn't need admin rights
?
... Such a portable app to be included in the portable app suite would be essential imho because it not only allows you to image CDROM's, but allows you to not risk scratching your CDs...
Best regards

The only way to mount a drive letter in Windows is with admin rights. Period.
That said, since the very nature of the activity requires admin rights - in this case mounting an ISO as a drive - an app which requires admin rights to do that *IS* a candidate for official release. Same way we have JkDefrag and Smart Defrag available and they require admin rights.
One side note: You can open ISO files with 7-Zip Portable and get the files out any time you want. It's not mounted as a drive letter, but you can copy the files out to a local or portable drive and use them and then delete them when you're done. It's a nice option to know about and it doesn't require admin rights.
Sometimes, the impossible can become possible, if you're awesome!
Thanks for the reply John.
Well out of all the ISO mounting apps I could find, this one was the best I've tested (and it nice and portable)
If JKDefrag, etc require admin rights (as does this ISO mounting utility), then I think it should be a definite candidate for distrubution with the other portable apps on your page.
yes, I'm aware of displaying and extracting files rooted in ISO files using 7-zip, but it is not so conveinent, and for browsing large files, it is slow

since there are options to run this without it being 'paf' it really isn't necessary to make it paf as it doesn't really meet the criteria for being paf, correct?
i have to go with this one as the best choice for mounting iso as drive
it leaves a reg entry behind and requires admin rights
who doesn't run a secondary portable menu? (for such programs)
i like portable apps for the simple fact that you don't have to reinstall if you wipe your system drive
thanks again...
might as well put up the main link:

if one needs admin rights then the program is not truly portable. sorry
it is portable if it can be run from a stick
