whenever I try to install FF8.01 I get the same old message... please close all other versions of FF, portable, bla bla... even if NO OTHER VERSIONS OF FF are OPEN.
I checked the Process Explorer time and again, to no avail.
What am I doing wrong?

If firefox.exe is running under another account and you're an admin on some versions of Windows, this can occur.

I have exactly the same problem but no one seems to be able to help (https://portableapps.com/node/29773) - I can't even install a clean version of FF7+, it just won't run (I'm still on 6.0.2 which works fine).
It's nothing to do with FF running as another user (or at all), that just appears to be a red herring. The log file says it can't backup the FF exe file, which is also odd as I can do it manually?
Over to Chrome I go...
