In the past I remember that when I installed the PortableApps platform on my USB flash drive, this changed the default icon of the volume to the symbol of PortableApps itself. In Windows, this was due to a "desktop.ini" file.
Since some months, I haven't been able to customize this icon anymore.
Is this normal (maybe due to the new Windows 7)?
I'd like some other opinions.
Michele
It's done in the autorun.inf, not desktop.ini, found at X:\autorun.inf
Oh, you're right. Now I remember.
But yesterday I reinstalled the Platform (without deleting the previous, so it's been considered an update), and a new "autorun.inf" was not created.
Please could you write me the content of the file, so that I can create one by myself?
Thank you.
Replace "PortableApps\PortableApps.com\App\Graphics\usb.ico" with the path to the icon of your choice, minus the drive letter (X:\) part.
is there a reason the autorun is not refreshed on an update?
It is not written out on upgrades so that if folks are upgrading and purposely deleted it, it is not recreated. autorun.inf is not created on new installs when Trend Micro is running as it has major issues.
Sometimes, the impossible can become possible, if you're awesome!
Maybe this could be an install/upgrade option?
Similar to some programs asking to make Windows Desktop shortcuts?
Thank you Pyromaniac for the information.
I have been searching something similar for weeks...
And thank you all the other users cut in on this discussion.
