I am running PORTABLE APPS on a very old computer with the following specs
1.87 gigahertz Intel Pentium M
1024 Megabytes RAM
64 kilobyte primary memory cache
2048 kilobyte secondary memory cache
Since I dont have much RAM , and firefox portable is a huge memory hog.So I have to rely on XP to increase my virtual memory.Ive set the virtual memory for my main hard drive to stay between 300-100mb.This is working,but it does get slow after running all day.
Should I increase this?or set XP to automatically manage it?
And should I also create a paging file on my USB drive running portable apps?Or should I have no paging file on my USB drive at all?

1. The recommended is at least 1.5 times your RAM. My computer has 1GB of RAM, and 5GB of virtual memory.
2. Putting a pagefile in your USB drive will slow down the drive and the system, and will make the life of your drive shorter.

ok I have set all of my otehr drives to have "no paging file"
And I have set my Maximum Virtual Paging file to (1024mb X 1.5)=1536mb
But what should i set the initial size too?
You can set both the initial and maximum sizes to the same value, thus keeping its size constant.
Also, if you have another internal hard drive, it would be preferable to keep the pagefile on the one you use less (usually the non-system).

Well Im using a laptop with one internal drive,and PORTABlE APPS on a 1GB flash stick plugged into my USB hub.So your saying it would be good to attach some sort or hard drive,or flash drive to another usb port and use it exclusively for the Virtual Paging file since it makes so many temporary writes to the drive?
I said internal hard drive. It's not necessary, though.

I know you were referring to internal,since the read/write time is faster.But I can still accomplish the same result with an external drive correct?

Well Ive been researching flash drives,and apparently its not a good idea to defrag them because they have a limited number of read/write cycles before they fail.
So while it may be good to use an internal/external disk drive to write virtual page/temporary caches/photoshop caches to.It would greatly shorten the life of a flash drive.And they also have a slower read/write time than disk drives.
But Im going to buy a cheap 2 or 4GB flash drive and try it out
I thought you was referring to a external hard drive; I definitively don't recommend using a flash drive this way.

Is there a preferred format for Flash Drives using Portable Apps. ie: FAT32 or NTFS.

Fat32, ExFAT or NTFS are fine. With NTFS, you need to ensure that security is set to Everyone with Full Control for the whole drive to avoid issues as you move PCs. With ExFAT, you need to realize that some PCs simply won't work (many XP machines won't have ExFat installed).
