A Question about my keyboard and is it just me.

I built my Windows 7 Computer back in June this year and have had only one problem, certain keys will act like switches during gaming. For example if I tap the space-bar it will act as if I'm holding it down. I then have to tap it twice to get it to return to a unpressed state. The same thing happens with the Backspace and Enter keys. However the arrow keys are just like switches, I tap it on and have to tap it off.

I'm wondering if any one else has had this problem or similar. Is it related to Windows and/or the Motherboard?

Additional info: I have tried 2 different keyboards and get the same results.
. I have uninstalled the drivers and had windows reinstall them.
. I have tried a USB and old PS2 port keyboard.

difficult

this is kind of difficult, you have tested other hardware kbd, so it may be some problem in the bios setting of the main board or so.

What I would do in such situation, download some kind of life system, some linux like ubuntu or some smaller one like DSL or pendrive linux or what ever, boot from this CD (or usb stick or what ever they offer) and see if the problem is there too.

If yes, then go and play with bios setting until all gets right.
If problem goes away, then further investigation on the driver setting under windows will be needed.

StickyKeys

It sounds like it may be StickyKeys (a feature which allows for artificial holding of modifier keys [Alt, Ctrl, Shift, & Super] so that people who can't push multiple keys at once can still use key combinations), to enable &/or disable it try pressing the Right Shift Key 5 times in a row (if the shortcut has been disabled, then you may have to disable it via the Accessibility Options dialog found in the Control Panel)

what driver

can you tell us in that case what driver exactly is installed?

Now we know that it is not the hardware, it is not directly the bios, it has something to do with windows driver setting or the some other sticky key setting which I also now believe could be the reason.

try to press the numlock key for more then 5 secs

Driver is

The Driver is
Microsoft's Standard PS/2
6/21/2006
Vr: 6.1.7601.17514
!Up to Date!

Other info: Mouse keys are off
Sticky Keys off
Toggle keys off (the NumLock pressed for 5sec. controls this)

And Numlock does nothing.

I'm good with computers but this one has me stumped.

Edit: Do ya think a new keyboard would work?

if works with linux

then hardware is ok

it is either one of the 'accessibility' settings doing the problem or there is some more program running doing similar functions on your windows.

As next I would go and actually activate the accessibility keyboard functions so they are enabled also in the windows with a tickbox.
Then see if something changes in behaviour. It can be, that the particular driver reacts slightly different to some settings and inverts the function.

Then trying to install (force manually ) other kbd driver.

difficult

as there can be many factors in this problem and difficult to estimate when one is not in front of the computer.

It can not be hardware problem, it is just some setting in windows, it seems to operate the accessibility options when it should not.

The question is, when you *enable* all those accessibility options, is there *any* change in behavior? If not, then this part of windows is kind of broken. In such case better to check with some windows forum as they might give you an idea what .dll would be responsible for it and where you could get it as replacement.

Did you install different driver for kbd? Which one?
What did happen after you ticked some of the accessibility options?

At least this would be my approach.
There is no black or white way in such case. If settings or different driver do not provide change of behavior, then you may as well reinstall your windows completely.

Another thing to try, just to

Another thing to try, just to rule out the possibility:

Take the offending keyboard and try it on a different computer.
