Hi Guys, I really believe that a field of software that is very lacking in the portable area is that of firewalls. I want to see a firewall that can restrict both program and ports access properly and detects these things automatically, but can be configured to your needs. Essentially, it would be nice to have a suite so that any computer you plug your USB/External HDD into could become a 'secure zone', i.e. safe from virus, program threats, and network threats. I have tried AS3, but it cannot block traffic properly, even when set to "Block All" it allows everything through that isn't in the rules. What do you guys think?
is a good idea this has been discussed many times before

Never curse the alligator till you done cross the bridge.
Anytime your want to control network packets it's going to require admin access. Are you going to have that on every machine you use? Doubt it.

Have you tried SterJo Portable Firewall? Its not a perfect but try it.
For Windows users the answer is an easy one.. but this is with systems which have Windows Firewall in place.. The program is called Windows Firewall Notifier... Basically tells you about everything... http://wokhan.online.fr/progs.php?sec=WFN ...portable... Admin Rights needed I believe...
Next is a safe solution but it isn't bulletproof and still some things may get past it.. but PeerBlock has a portable installations as well... http://www.peerblock.com/releases The problem is driver loading by Services.exe.. HIPS and Administrative Rights...
I have noticed that some port scanning attacks seem to get past it even with the IP ranges put into the filter.. and ESS5 nails it.. so.. I dunno..
Those are handy.. BUT.. Admin Rights and so on like before..
...and I am going to check out the one above mentioned.. BUT main thing for me if I do not feel secure and have no access.. I will just do without.. best not to lay it all open.. especially if I am forced to use something because I wasn't prepared... Then it is just my fault anyway..
