Install Java Portable

Do what it says... install Java Portable.

I got the same error. I had

I got the same error. I had already loaded Java Portable before the error message and reloaded after the error message. Still getting the message.
I did install Java Port on my D drive Program folder\common files where all my other portable apps are located, not the default C drive etc.

Correct structure:

You must have them in the correct location. A valid setup is this:
X:\PortableApps\CommonFiles\Java
X:\PortableApps\JavaPortableLauncher

The Java Portable Launcher looks for ..\CommonFiles\Java\bin\javaw.exe.

Exactly what I have except I

Exactly what I have except I call my folder Program Files.

D:\Program Files\CommonFiles\Java
D:\Program Files\JavaPortableLauncher

javaw.exe is where it should be.

No it's not...you have them

No it's not...you have them in "Program Files" NOT "PortableApps".

This DOES make a difference. Put them in the correct folder and it will work Smile

It's different for Java, I would assume because it's a "CommonFiles" location and not an "AppPortable" location. It's expecting the X:\Portableapps\CommonFiles location.

Even though, there is no

Even though, there is no indication on the install display that you need to place Java in a specific named folder, I did the following as suggested and still got the same error. I guess I won't be using this at this time.

D:\PortableApps\CommonFiles\Java
D:\PortableApps\JavaPortableLauncher

I reread your original error,

I reread your original error, and I think I know what the issue is and it looks like a bug.

Try renameing "PortableApps" to "PortableApps.com" and it will most likely work. I can't test this right now, not on my PC, but if what I'm thinking is right, this change will work for you.

No

That's a URL to download it from.

What's in there?

What's in the CommonFiles\Java directory? If there is another Java directory, it didn't install right.

Spaces?

Maybe the space between Program and Files causes the problem.

i installed to:

X:\CommonFiles\Java
X:\JavaPortableLauncher

and it works on the box at work using the USB HD (one empirical data point but i'll have two more when i get home).

thanx for the lead-out. (too much TdF coverage).

Question of how-to get a Custom Path?

How could one change or have Java Portable Launcher to look for Portable Java in a Different Place?

The reason I would like to know is so I could move the CommonFiles inside Java Portable Launcher. Just to keep it neat...and so I can the folder Java.

unsupported

This isn't suppported. CommonFiles is so other apps like LibreOffice can use it, too.
