I don't use my key to store Images, Music and Videos, but I do work on a lot of websites and like to manage them all from my key. PortableApps Menu is fantastic, but it would be nice if I could rename the Images, Music and Videos folders to whatever I need, and change the icons myself. I'm sure others would find this useful too.
Also, I would like to use a self-made html page as my browsers default homepage (to link to all the websites stored on my key), but because the the drive letter can vary I can't make this consistent. Any ideas?

The ability to rename the icons is a lower-priority addition that will come later on (getting the pre-WinXP and 120dpi patches in and finishing up the PortableApps Format support come first).
The ability to use a local homepage is built into Firefox Portable. Check out the help.html within the advanced options section. You'll need to use an INI, but it'll work.

Actually, I can't for the life of me seem to find any instructions on how to alter the INI file, or anything similar.

I see in the Version History that you 'Added ability to use local homepages' back in April.
There's a section on 'Copying Your Local Firefox Settings', but that's not what I'm after.
This thread deals with the topic, but the solution is dirty and involves a redirect. In this other thread you hint at exactly what I'm looking for, but no specifics are mentioned.
Am I missing the obvious here? Talk of .ini files and 'launchers' means little to me, so it's possible the answer is smacking me in the face!

Where is the root of "my" PortableApps\FirefoxPortable\help.html?
I seem to have lost it. I have searched my U3 and it is not found on either drive.
Perhaps I left it on the Internet somewhere? Any suggestions?
If you're using Firefox for U3, there is no equivalent option to what's being discussed here. Firefox for U3 is an entirely different package from Mozilla Firefox, Portable Edition.

Normally, the root is the base directory, for example if your USB is D:, then th root of your USB would be D:/.

i am using my portable hdd since more than a year and have a certain folder structure on it that i don't wanna change. unfortunately it seems like the portableapps folder structure cannot be customized.
could you provide an ini-file to customize the documents, music, video, ... folders' paths and maybe icons in the next version?
BTW great piece of software!
i just registered to ask exactly the same question - how can i rename the default folders? is there any new development regarding this topic or a possibility how i can achieve this without expert programming knowledge?

Just pate THIS
Chane the text to what you would like. The things like Documents, and Music, etc. That part on the right, rename them as desired. And then...
In notepad, and save it as, test.locale, make sure it saves as a LOCALE file if not, try again, but under Save As Type, click All Files. And then paste it into the X:PortableApps-PortableAppsMenu drirectory.

thank you very much, but it doesn't work, i probably did something wrong.
i copied the text, i changed ICON_VIDEOS=Video to ICON_VIDEOS=Stats, i saved the file in notepad as test.locale and put it in the directory E:\Program Files\PortableApps\PortableAppsMenu (E is at the moment my USB stick and Program Files ist the folder where all my portable applications and other applications are in. this works fine.
when i now change the folder "Videos" to "Stats" it can't open. if i don't change it, nothing happens and it appears and opens as "Videos".
can you guide me through this?
