PocketSearch (file content indexer and search) does not index PortableApps Suite folders

I am looking for a portable file content indexer and search tool similar to Windows desktop search. I saw older posts discussing Puggle and Wilma in this forum but it seems that there is no such tool that works properly. Index Your Files (www.indexyourfiles.com) was also mentioned, but this one seems to index file names only.

I found another one: PocketSearch (www.gaviri.com/gaviri-universal-search-downloads.php). My first impression was positive. It has a nice user interface and apart from documents can also index emails. The problem is: It does not work together with the PortableApps Suite. The folders Documents, Music, Pictures and their content are invisible for PocketSearch. Only folders you create yourself in the root directory are visible to PocketSearch and are indexed.
Another problem is that PocketSearch does not appear in the PortableApps menu although I placed it in the PortableApps folder in line with the instructions how to integrate non-PortableApps programs in the menu (other non-PortableApps programs I use show up in the menu).

Any ideas how to fix these issues with PocketSearch? Or do you know of any other portable file content indexer and search tool?

Solution

I saw now that PocketSearch appears in the PortableApps menu after I restarted the computer.
I also found a solution to the "invisible" folders Documents, Music, etc.: Delete the folders and create new folders with the same names - sounds strange but it works (the special folder icons will be lost though). In this way the folders Documents, Music, Pictures, Videos can still be accessed from the PortableApps menu when clicking on the icons on the right side - and PocketSearch will see and index them.

One more thing

When you install PocketSearch to your flash drive it will overwrite the Autorun file of the PortableApps Platform. So make a copy of the Autorun file before you install PocketSearch. After installation you can copy back your original Autorun to keep the PortableApps icon and the name you might have given your flash drive.

Alternative solution

There is a quick way to remove the System attribute to turn "invisible" folders into "visible" ones. Open ‘Command Prompt’ from Windows Start menu and type:
attrib -s x:\documents
This will remove the System attribute from the folder Documents on drive with letter X. The special folder icon will be lost. For some more in depth information on this procedure see www.giza-blog.de/WindowsXPOrdnerSchreibschutzAttributeSchreibgeschuetztO... (in German) and https://portableapps.com/node/30133.

Read-only flag also

You should set the read-only flag at the same time to keep the specialized icon.

attrib -s +r X:\Documents

PocketSearch Version 2.1 hangs

I could not get it working properly. It stopped indexing and did not want to continue although there is no mention about a limit on the number of documents on the website. I tried it on different flash drives in different setups always with the same result, i.e. it might be a bug.

Gaviri Universal Search seems to work

I tried now Gaviri Universal Search, which is just a newer version of PocketSearch (www.searchos.com/download). The problem with the indexer that I observed with PocketSearch seems to be solved.

Regarding ä, ö, ü, ß, it behaves the same way as PocketSearch (see https://portableapps.com/node/22218#comment-187482) - not perfect but somehow o.k.

Not portable in free version

Hello,

It is not portable in Free version.
I installed v2.1, tried to relocate the index situated by default in C: and got a message about a 1 of 30 tries.

Will I someday find a portable file content indexer for my .odt ?
