PeaZip portable file archiver and compressor

Hi, I always appreciated the portable application approach (and your high quality portable software repository).
I recently developed PeaZip (now at it's 1.1 release), a file archiver and compressor (featuring also file split and two factor authentication encryption) that is basically a portable, autocontained application having all it needs (executables, configuration files etc) in the program's folder.
"PeaZip1.1_Win32.zip" doesn't need installation, you just need to extract and start using it; you can move it and run it from the path you prefer, i.e. form a removable media, a network path or even a CD/DVD rom, however a writeable path is recommended in order to allow updating of persistent randomness collector and configuration files.
I also tryed to keep the disk occupation low using strip and UPX on executables and the total space occupation is currently below 3MB (I know, it could be better!).

Current release downloadable packages are at:
http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=178996&package_id=...
The package "PeaZip1.1_Win32.zip" contains the portable application compiled for Windows (tested on 98, 2000, XP home and pro); if you are or will get interested in portable apps for Linux, the two Linux packages (for GTK1 and GTK2) follows the same philosophy and are standalone, protable applications as well (save for the fact that Linux versions requires libgdk_pixbuf library installed in the system).

You may find latest releases of PeaZip at:
http://sourceforge.net/projects/peazip/
and documentation about it on it's website:
http://peazip.sourceforge.net/

I hope you may get interested in trying the software, please feel free to ask me anything about it.
I also hope you may find it interesting enough to be worthy of being listed as utility in your software repository, if not please consider that it is a young application and that I'm currently actively developing it, so you may check it in next months to see if you find something new that may be interesting.
Thank you
Giorgio

Hi, I know and use portable

Hi, I know and use portable 7-zip, it is my favourite mainstream archiver and doesn't miss as portable app on any of mine USBkey.
In fact, as you can read from PeaZip documentation, PeaZip supports most of mainstream formats through 7za, the standalone console executable included in 7-zip, that is ported also on POSIX (by a different developer, but always under LGPL) allowing PeaZip to support same archive types on both Linux and Windows platform.
PeaZip however uses a different executable (mine, released under LGPL too) for split files with optional checksum/hash integrity check and for archiving/compressing files in it's native .pea format (supporting two factor authenticated encryption and per-file and per-volume integrity check), and in future releases I'm considering in introducing also file analisys oriented tools. Support for rar and paq files is also planned for future releases.
Another difference is that user interface design is quite different from other similar applications, including portable 7-zip; it is focused expèecially to help users to save archive layouts, export job definition (that may be used to compose scripts) and keep detailed job log to have good control of what is going on; see also the documentation for the features available composing links to quick internal PeaZip functions.

IMHO portable 7-zip is an excellent choice as portable file archiver, however I think that maybe PeaZip brings some original elements (as some functions I coded ground up and as for the user interface) not being just another *Zip clone.

Hi, thank you, I tested the package this morning (in Italy).
You were very kind to answer so quickly!
As for I can see the package is ok, but it seems that you packed the installable version (the PeaZip1.1_Win32_setup.exe package) and not the standalone version (PeaZip1.1_Win32.zip).
The latter package only differs from the first because it doesn't contains the authomated unistaller unins000.exe (and unins000.dat, created by InnoSetup), that is not needed for the standalone version and that will be not needed in the portable application, so you can save about 600 KB (of uncompressed space) omitting to put it in the package.
Thanks again!

I enjoy it

I downloaded it and its a fine piece of software. Especially the encryption stuff is great. Leaves nothing in the registry. Supports several formats.
Good work!

Hi, many thanks for your kind and positive comment about PeaZip!
I also appreciate applications that doesn't mess up the registers so I written PeaZip to don't let anything orphaned on the registry (and being it open source, anyone can check it):
- the standalone version doesn't uses the registry at all;
- for the installable one you may also look at the setup script sourcecode PeaZip1.x_setup_script.iss that shows exactly what does it write to the registry and shows that everithing get cleanly removed hile unistalling.
