Do any of the Music apps support scrobbling via Last.fm?

I've been using foobar and it allows scrobbling via the last.fm site with it's built in setting. (I can't use the last.fm app because I can't install stuff at work.)

I just recently installed the portable apps suite and love the update feature. Sadly, I can't figure out how to install outside portable apps in this suite. (I was using PStart before. I loved the simplicity, but the ability to auto update trumps all.)

Do any of the music apps in the "Portable App Directory" enable scrobbling support?

Other Apps

You can install any portable app you want following these directions:
https://portableapps.com/support/portable_apps_suite#addingotherapps

Sometimes, the impossible can become possible, if you're awesome!

Thanks for the direction. Now

Thanks for the direction.

Now I just need to figure out a way to minimize the portable apps window to the notification area instead of the task bar.

On the same page

I assume you're asking about doing this on Windows 7? The instructions are also on the page John linked: https://portableapps.com/support/portable_apps_suite#disablewin7taskbar

Yes, on Win 7. That only enables an icon in the notification area. It does not minimize it to the notification area. I still see the portable apps tab in the tray.

But to maximize the functionality of the Portable apps suite, I'd still like to install a music player that has the auto update feature enabled, and has the scrobbling (audio scrobbler, Last.fm) capabilities built in.

Have you tried VLC?

I believe VLC satisfies your criterion:
1: It is an Official PortableApps.com App, thus it is both Installable & Updatable via the items in the "Manage Apps" menu ("Get More Apps...", and "Check For Updates" respectively) in the Platform.
2: Enabling AudioScrobbling is fairly simple.

(I use VLC all the time, but I don't Scrobble, so I can't say how well it'll work, perhaps you could inform me?)

To Enable AudioScrobbling in VLC

  1. Open VLC
      (Portable or Installable Edition)
  2. Go to the "Preferences" window
      (Tools > Preferences, or Ctrl+P)
  3. Switch to the "Audio" tab
(Tabs are located on the left)
  4. Check the "Submit played tracks stats to Last.fm" check-box
(In the "Tracks" section at the bottom of the right side)
  5. Enter your login details in the associated Username and Password text-boxes
(They should appear after Step #4)
  6. Scrobble to your hearts content
      Wink

Well darn it. VLC doesn't

Well darn it. VLC doesn't seem to be scrobbling and scrobbling in foobar stopped a long time ago...Why can't things just be easy?
Do you guys have any other portable music player recommendations that scrobble?

I use MusicBee. It runs portably and scrobbles fine, although I don't know if it's stealth or not.

I think part of my problem is that the Last.fm desktop app won't work on my machine. I think they have something locked down that is preventing it from working on our office network. I get the prompt for me to allow the Last.fm app to grant Music Bee to access to my account, but I don't get the browser pop up to enable it. Maybe something in Chrome is preventing the pop up to open...I've spent way too much time trying to figure this out. I wish it were just as simple as putting in my last.fm account info into foobar...

You don't need the last.fm

You don't need the last.fm app to scrobble from MusicBee. You can set it up in the settings.

VLC working

I've got VLC working here - I signed up for last.fm just to try.

Make sure to check "Submission of played songs to last.fm" at All Preferences > Interface > Control Interfaces
And also fill in your login details under All Preferences > Interface > Control Interfaces > Audioscrobbler
I've got the url set as post.audioscrobbler.com

[EDIT] Also restart VLC before trying to see if it works.
