##aswSnx ??? folder what is it?

Just I do not recall installing or running anything special, but from today, on one of my usb sticks with portable apps on it, I found on the root of the stick a new folder named:

##aswSnx private storage

it has also some subfolder, but contents either not visible or empty

any idea which program could have created something like that?

Virus

Perhaps a virus you picked up from an infected PC?

well

I was scanning today this and that, from windows, from linux and bootable, did not find anything so far.
The device was only in my own PCs , but well all is possible.

I just thought, if someone recognizes something familiar in the name of that folder, so I could trace what did create it.

---

ok, did finally what I should have done first: enter the name of the folder in some kind of google...

and

this folder is created by avast anti virus in the case when something is run 'in the sandbox' what I dont do in general, but I remamber when I did some of the updates and started the one or other software, it was asking me probably too many times if I want run it in sand box, that at some point I just acknowledged it and so it was run in sandbox and produced this folder apparently.

I use avast for long time, as it does not bother me with many warnings etc, it however asks me to run for example all portable apps the first time if I want run them in sand box.

Bit late...but that's the OT

Bit late...but that's the OT forum's fault...

Yes aswSNX is an avast! folder. It is as you have already discovered the container folder for the avast autosandbox.

This folder is hidden on a machine with avast, however will show on a machine without.

Being a PA.c user and avast user with the sandbox is a pain...it wants to sandbox many things (because they fit certain criteria - signatures, located on a drive etc. etc.) I have often found myself turning it off just to avoid the multiple popups that can be encountered.

There are a couple of threads about it avast sandbox, and in the avast forums...

In the latest beta version, this folder has changed in name. It is now called "avast! Sandbox" so that should help reduce confusion.

The new version is...

...annoying. I like the idea in principle, but at the moment with PA.c it is a chore...

Make sure you at least set it to ask

avast GUI -> additional protection -> AutoSandbox -> settings -> change the option to ask.

That way, you will know that your apps may be sandboxed...

Now off to re-install skype portable since the 7zip extractor in the installer was sandboxed... Sad

Question for John (or anyone else with the answer ;))

If the installer is interupted, say by a sandbox prompt, what will happen? Will it wait, or fail?

new version switched off

in the latest version of avast, it was not possible to use any portable apps any more, so I had to switch the sandbox completely off.

To start firefox, it asked me some 5 times if I want really run it or run it in sand box, not very comfortable at all.
