Question about Truecrypt License (sorry if this is a stupid question)

In the past, I've seen that a PortableApps version of Truecrypt couldn't be done because of licensing issues. It appears that Truecrypt has gone open source as stated here (see the top), and the source code can be found here. This is not a request for it, but rather a question of if it is able to be made into a PortableApps version . I know it has it's own portable mode. If it can, I will make an official request in the correct forum. Thank you..

Always open source.

It's always been open source. From what I recall, the problems were issues of portability (though I don't recall 100% on the matter, so I could be wrong) with the program itself.

Naming problem

IIRC, main problem was in the naming. Similarly how Firefox is open source, but you can't modify it and distribute under same or very similar name. Together with things like driver dependence, and no working explorer tool that would run without admin, and it was not a good candidate.

My posts are old and likely no longer relevant.

Admin Right

As TrueCrypt requires admin rights, it wasn't a good fit for a default way of encrypting your whole drive and being able to carry it around with you since it'll only work on your own computers.

Sometimes, the impossible can become possible, if you're awesome!

Hmm.

I don't know if that should be grounds for exclusion. What if a user uses PA.c in his/her own DropBox installation between his/her own computers?

I see

Ah... I understand now. Seems like I remembered it differently (further proof not to trust my memory). I did know about the whole drive encryption needing admin access, but I always use a file container for my sensative financials and such. Anyway, thanks for the explanation. Peace...
