Auto Start

I tried adding the exe file to the start up folder, but it won't start. Also how do I get it to auto start when I plug in the flash drive? I have windows 7 32. I thought when I had it on another flash drive it did auto start.

Thanks,

What do you mean by adding

What do you mean by adding the exe file to the startup folder doesn't work? Which exe are you trying to autorun, and where is it located?

If it is on a portable drive it probably won't work, as I think entries in the startup folder are processed before removable media is mounted.

Autorun from USB has been disabled in newer Windows versions due to the potential of USB born malware spreading itself through autorun entries.

It is still somewhat possible though, there are a couple of apps here that supposedly work (but these need to be installed on a PC before it will work) otherwise certain portable hardware (such as U3 compatible devices) emulate a CD partition (which can autorun) and a USB partition (which the CD partition can run things off).

Auto run Start.exe in the root of flash drive. I tried editing the autorun file and nothing. Also can't change the image icon.

Thanks,

I tired that, I got: Last

I tired that, I got: Last Drive: None Platform Found: N/A

Now I'm not sure what this means to fix it, is it the drive and files or my computer.

Thanks, I'm still trying to search for the answer. But so far no luck.

w7 probably negative

you will find that many solutions were made before the patch was issued by microsoft.

The blocking of autoply for usb devices was applied by updates I think sometimes last year, not sure abt the time any more.

So what ever you try, older howto's will probably not work at present time.
You may need to install software on every computer the autorun should work, just to bypass microsofts block of autorun.
This may lead to the problem that it will autorun any usb drives with proper target files on it then.

BTW: to have autorun for usb sticks enabled is not very wise, as this can really assist very spread of malware very easy. So you should be actually happy that you do not have autorun any more.
