Tiled Backgrounds

Any tiled background would work. A sky would be nice...

Google is your friend.

An unexpected resource I've rediscovered is Yahoo! 5 and below "skins", the background images we used to be able to spruce up our clients with. As I am a chronic file packrat I kept my images in the hope that I could tweak (read: hack) Yahoo!'s new interface and have the best of both worlds. While I still haven't achieved my goal, they work wonderfully for background images. http://www.geocities.com/freedomz_price_91/Images/PStartSC.png

That's my current theme. If you can't find any you like, or any at all for that matter, IM me or drop a line, and I'll see what I can do. my login for here is the same as my AIM address, and my eMail is : joyDOTdesATgmailDOTcom

How do you...

That looks pretty cool.

Are the titlebar and menus part of your OS theme or did you manage to skin PStart independently? If so, how did you do it?

Off to look for YM skins now...

Window Blinds

Unfortunately Window Blinds or almost any other window skinning software isn't portable. The furthest you'll get is the background tiled image.

Google Images Search

To expand on what I was talking about, try a Google Search for Tiled Background and you should get loads of capable results.

Unfortunately, Rob R. is

Unfortunately, Rob R. is right: Windowblinds is not protable, sorry :(. But the background still looks cool on other systems.
Best of all, though, the filename path for the image is dynamic, meaning you don't have to re-find the image EVERY time you change machines. To make life easy, I just put all my background images in here: *Root:\Program Files\PStart\Backgrounds.

I just did a google search myself, and it seems the webrings that I used to patronize have become extinct, what with the introduction of actual Yahoo! Messener Skins and all. Here is a pack of all my images if you want them; unfortuneately, they are not many, as it was only a curiosity at the time, lol, and the recurring theme is "Fantasy".

Where do you change the .xml file?

Hi,
I am just learning about portable apps and programing and open source projects etc. and I was just wondering if you could tell me where in the PStart.xml file you place the path to the background image? or how it is phrased to look for that path? I already created the *Root:\Program Files\PStart\Backgrounds and filled it with some images. Thanks so very much for any help you can provide a COMPLETE newbie. Smile

Umm.

No need to the edit the XML file.

You can set the background in PStart's options; the option is easy to miss, though... just choose Setup::Settings, go to the Items section, and click the little "..." button next to "Background image". As long as the chosen image is on the same drive as PStart.exe, PStart should automatically make the path relative.
