Request Game: RuneScape

Okay, yes, I know that RuneScape is an online game, and I fully understand that. I would like to mention that all critisism towards the fact that this is an online multiplayer game to be played in a web browser is already known to me. However, JaGeX and other administration has created it's very own client. It is free, open source, and doesn't require administrator properties to install. Installation takes minutes, and if you use the client sometimes it will even override some proxies. ;P Anyways, if you skipped what I wrote, basically, I want somebody to make the the RuneScape windows client portable. This client doesn't even need Java installed to run! I think it's great. Wink

Here's the link for the actual client:

Here's the link to the source:
SOURCE

Here's the page that claims it's open source (It's RuneScape's page. -_-):
RuneScape Download Page

I hope that somebody finds a solution. I think that this is a very promising program that RuneScape has writtin. Of course, I'm also a very big noob to programming, let alone portablalizing (is that a word? lol, never mind.) Before I (or anyone else) gets their hopes up please let us know if this even physically(or virtually?... whatever, you get what I mean. lol.) possible.

Cheers,

P.S. Also, I know that I'm supposed to search the forums before I post something, and that is something I failed to do(okay, what I really mean is that I was too damn lazy to type in the search bod and hit eneter. lol.)I am incredibly sorry if I have "double posted".

I have been trying to get that, but...

it keeps giving me a 404 error, both the client and the source code.

Not quite sure what's going on with you buddy. Oh well. If I really have to I might download the prgram and then post my own link.

I remember that one, but...

that's not it. The one I can't get to is the new one, and does not use IE.

It looks like it can be done,

It looks like it can be done, it is licensed with the GPL2 license, and it uses openJDK. Im going to look into it some more.

If you did manage to download it...

does it come in an .exe file that extracts files necessary for operation or does it just come with the .exe that just runs the game?

p.s.: It could be done, but Runescape itself downloads and leaves .dll's and preference files necessary for the game's operation on the host computer, which might make the Runescape client out for the count as a candidate.

Its a .msi there is a bunch

Its a .msi there is a bunch of .exe, .dll and .jar in it if you want I can take a pic of the files or upload the installer somewhere for you.
EDIT: I think it has every thing that is needed to run.

It did...

read preference files that where created earlier from previous times I played Runescape from Firefox and Google Chrome, it seems. The .dll's, however, I am unsure of... (If only I had a windows virtual machine...)

Portable

In truth, i'm gonna say is that if you could find the path of all the files that this msi creates, then makin this program portable is not out of the question. it's very easy to fix this problem.

License? Source code?

This Sourceforge project is not specified end-user license for RuneScape Game Client Portable. In package is included a license for Jagex Launcher only:

The Jagex Launcher is licensed under the GNU General Public License version 2 with the Classpath exception, a statement of which is given below. This licensing does not apply to any software run within the Jagex Launcher, including but not limited to the Jagex products for which the launcher is intended; see the statement of the Classpath exception at the bottom of this document for details.
The Jagex Launcher is copyright 2010 Jagex Limited.
...

And where is the RuneScape Game Client Portable source code?
Lack of source code is a violation of SourceForge Terms of Use:

When you submit, post, upload or otherwise provide Code to SourceForge.net, you must designate promptly the software license pursuant to which licensees (including Dice) obtain rights with respect to such Code. Except as otherwise expressly permitted by these Terms, any Code submitted to SourceForge.net must be licensed to Dice and other licensees under a license that is: compliant with the Open Source Initiative (“OSI”)’s Open Source Definition (http://www.opensource.org/docs/osd) or certified as an “OSI-Approved License” (http://opensource.org/licenses).

Sorry, but this project looks bad.

The Source Code

He didn't post it, but it's really not that hard to find::

@echo off
cd App\jagexcache\jagexlauncher\bin
JagexLauncher.exe runescape
cd ..\..\..\..
move /y %USERPROFILE%\jagexcache\*.* Data\jagexcache
move /y %USERPROFILE%\*.dat Data\
move /y %USERPROFILE%\*.preferences Data\
move /y %windir%\.jagex_cache_32\* Data\
rmdir /s /q %windir%\.jagex_cache_32
rmdir /s /q %USERPROFILE%\jagexcache

He's just installed it onto a flash drive and when you wanna run the program, he copies it into the right dicrectories and then runs the launcher. Nothing special.

I haven't gotten the chance to use this launcher and I was wondering why it wasn't working. I'm on a library computer with bat files disabled along with command prompt so I'll try it when I get home.
