Toucan won't launch

Just installed Toucan 3.0.4, and when I try to launch it, it immediately exits.

Rebooted PC; same problem.

This is on a Windows7 machine; might that be the issue?

Don't know where to start looking.

Thanks,

David

Windows

7 shouldn't be a problem, it runs fine here. Are you using a new installation or installing over an old one?

Something to do with running

Something to do with running on hard drive versus usb drive. Your "it works on my machine" doesn't usually help, but it did in this case. I use win7, and when I installed, it also crashed. Since you said it worked, I installed on my local hard drive and then it worked. Re-ran the install on my usb drive (on a mounted truecrypt volume actually) and it crashed, but differently and I got some error dialogs. I can forward it you are not able to reproduce and think they will help.

BTW, I love the improvements, thanks so much!

Paths and Errors

It could be a different path on your device. More likely, it's errors on the device, so I'd suggest scanning it.

Sometimes, the impossible can become possible, if you're awesome!

Paths

Yeah, it works at some install locations on my usb drive and not others. I get a wxWidgets Debug Alert dialog sometimes and not just an exception. Is there a log somewhere that saves this dialog text, as the text is not selectable in the dialog box. Without entering it all, it says:

C:\Programming\wxWidgets-2.9.1-VS10\include\wx/strvaragh.h(449):
>
failed in wxArgNormalizer::wxArgNormalize():format specifier doesn't match argument type
>

I'm installing from Toucan_3.1.0_Pre-Release_7.paf.exe

Cheers!

Yes

that should definitely be fixed in the new pre-release, please let me know if it isn't!

Run as Admin

I just had the exact same problem on my Win7 machine.

Right click on execute file and be sure to select RUN AS ADMINISTRATOR.

The program wouldn't install or run until I did this. Should fix your issue.

Try using the latest beta

Try using the latest beta version. This one is old. Your problem is probably fixed already.

I think I found a bug.. east asian characters in job.ini

hi,

I had the same problem. I tried to back up but toucan kept on failing to run properly. The Progress window would open but it would finish with Elapsed time = 0:00.

I looked in the jobs.ini and found that the folder file names I had selected which had Korean characters (this is a 2 byte east asian language) were mangled. I renamed the folders using English letters only and then the jobs.ini seemed ok and Toucan back up ran without any problems.

Toucan did not seem to have a problem when it compressed and backed up files with korean characters in the file names but it does not seem to handle them correctly when they appear in the jobs.ini file.

I was using toucan version 3.0.4.0, Date Modified = Nov 30 2010 8:50am. This was the latest I downloaded from this site.

Hope this helps. And thanks for a great tool!

Han
