Aero transparency missing in main window only

OS: Win7 SP1 x64
TB: 11.0 portable
Addons: none
Theme: default

Issue: The main Thunderbird window does not display the "glass" transparency effect that has been present since TBird 5.0. Other windows (new message, address book, etc) do show the full aero/glass effect.

This is on a brand-new "install" of TB 11.0 portable, with a completely fresh profile (no accounts and no extensions).

Any ideas on how to re-enable the glass effect in the main window? I'm one of the rare few that actually like that.

Thanks

New Theme

Thunderbird 11.0 ships with a new theme that moves the tabs to the top. You'll notice that the area around the tabs is aero-ified, just like it is on Firefox. Thunderbird now matches Firefox in terms of how aero is used as opposed to the aero-overload that it looked like in 10.0 and earlier.

As with Firefox, you're welcome to try a different theme from addons.mozilla.org. But I'd suggest just give it a week and you won't even notice the difference anymore.

Uhm... My question had nothing to do with tabs.

If you weren't following: for some reason TBird 11.0 Portable is not displaying the aero/glass effect in the main window (menu, buttons, etc), but these items are "glassy" in other Tbird windows (new message, address book, etc).

Again, this is on a brand-new install of TBird 11.0 portable. No profile, no extensions, no theme. Notta.

Right

And the theme of TB changed in 11.0. It's different than you are expecting it to be if you're familiar with 10.0 and earlier.. Aero effect is not enabled behind the menu options or toolbar buttons anymore. Only behind the tabs at the top of the window.

Don't Think So

They may eventually add in a setting to move the tabs back down (someone asked this in another thread). Getting aero behind the menu options and toolbar buttons will require making a custom theme. I don't think they made any effort to allow the older theme or elements of it to be switched back to as it was panned pretty widely for overusing aero in the UI and using it badly. Still, as with anything, I'd wager there are some folks that prefer the way it was and will put together a theme for it. You can ask around on a site like MozillaZine or in the Thunderbird support forums.

I found GlassMyBird. Nice to have my aero back.

I don't really care about the tabs, or where they're placed. At least not for TBird -- I do not use tabs in my mail client.
