Anti virus for Portable Thunderbird & Firefox

I have just updated to version 11.0 for both Portable Thunderbird & Firefox. AVG is no longer compatible, is this likely to change or is there an alternative that gives real time protection when using these products.
Thanks

Previously some features of AVG have been available as an extension from within the Portable Apps. As I have updated over recent months these have been disabled with the message that they are no longer compatible.

are par t of the base app to my knowledge not part of PortableApps are they still available for the local install? I am unclear what you mean or where these extensions were derived from? Are they part of AVG or extensions that you have added to Firefox and Thunderbird?

Thunderbird plugin

Here's some information I've found about the Thunderbird plugin. Scroll to the section titled "Mozilla Thunderbird plugin": http://forums.avg.com/ww-en/avg-forums?sec=thread&act=show&id=190910#pos...

I haven't found anything specific relating to Firefox yet.

Please note that these are plugins, which are installed onto the host computer, so fo not stay with your portable software when you change computers, and as such, there isn't really anything we (PortableApps.com) can do to solve the issue. With that said, we're happy to try!

Thanks for that, works

Thanks for that, works perfectly for scanning incoming emails. I note your point that it will not stay with the portable software but I can install it on the different computers that I use.

I would be pleased to hear if you find anything that works for Firefox, AVG Safe Search used to work.
Thanks

strange

most people inclusive myself try all possible ways to get rid of this kind of plugins which are installed by the suppliers of the antivirus products and cause more problems then any kind of useful function.

For example mail scanning: this is today practically obsolete as most servers support ssl mail transfer and so there is no point of trying to intercept mail before the mail client gets it. And once the mail client decrypts it, the standard antivirus service will monitor it, so any kind of such plugin is just a decoration.

This safe search bar for firefox has main purpose to collect info about the user as any other so 'sophisticated' search bars have.

If you want know if there is something cheking the websites you wisit for known safety problems, unless you did disable the service, all websites are checked against a database already from firefox, so why to install an additional malware?
