[Fixed] Skype 5.9.0.114 the /minimized switch broken

In the latest realease of Skype 5.9.0.114 the /minimized switch no longer minimizes Skype to the system tray! Previous portableapps version works fine! I hope this is something that can be fixed as it is most annoying! Sad

Windows 7 64 bit SP1 and all updates, NIS 2012, Malwarebytes non-resident

Our Stuff Didn't Change

Our stuff didn't change. Are you still setting it in AdditionalSettings= in the INI? It isn't supported to pass it to SkypePortable.exe.

No, I use the /minimized

No, I use the /minimized switch in a shortcut icon.

By your comment it sounds like it is what it is...so is there anyway I could get the previous portableapps version as I deleted it off my computer before realizing this issue!

Hopefully Skype will fix this issue in a future version!

Thanks!

I just thought I would let

I just thought I would let you know that I tried the regular version of Skype 5.9.0.114 and it works perfectly with the /minimized switch in the shortcut icon I created for it!

Use The INI

As stated, use the SkypePortable.ini and add that switch to AdditionalParameters=/minimized

Sorry John for being so

Sorry John for being so dense...but I cannot find SkypePortable.ini let alone adding the switch to AdditionalParameters=/minimized. I did a search of the entire computer for SkypePortable.ini and did not find it. I reinstalled SkypePortable and repeated the search still nothing! Sorry for being a pain...I must be missing something so you will have to hold my hand on this one and walk me through it!

The only file I have in that

The only file I have in that folder is launcher_license.txt

It would seem no one else is having a problem...so I am going to move on and use what works for me and that is the non-portable Skype!

Thanks!

Non-standard build

Hmm, interesting, that's a non-standard build. Create a text file with the following content:

AdditionalParameters=
DisableSplashScreen=false
RunLocally=false

# The above options are explained in the included readme.txt
# This INI file is an example only and is not used unless it is placed as described in the included readme.txt

Add your desired command-line switches to the AdditionalParameters line, and save the file beside SkypePortable.exe as SkypePortable.ini (so that you have the App folder, Data folder, Other folder, help.html, SkypePortable.exe and SkypePortable.ini).

Just one more comment I

Just one more comment I retrieved a copy of the previous SkypePortable 5.8.0.158 from a system image I have on my NAS. I installed it and it works perfectly with the /minimized switch in the shortcut icon I created for it! So to conclude version 5.8.0.158 works version 5.9.0.114 doesn't...if you still contend that nothing has changed with the code so be it I will leave it at that! If you want to review your code and want me to test a revision I will be happy to!

Thanks for your time!

Hi Gord we must have been

Hi Gord we must have been writing at the same time as I never saw your post until I posted mine. Anyway, I tried exactly what you suggested so now I have a SkypePortable.ini file with the following contents...

AdditionalParameters=/minimized
DisableSplashScreen=false
RunLocally=false

# The above options are explained in the included readme.txt
# This INI file is an example only and is not used unless it is placed as described in the included readme.txt

and it resides with help.html and SkypePortable.exe

However, with it in place Skype still does not minimize!

I looked through all my other PortableApps and none of them have a xxxPortable.ini file. Why do you think that is??? Could it be because I run my PortableApps as standalone entities...in other words I do not use the PortableApps.com Platform!

Thanks for trying to help!

Haven't tried the ini switch,

Haven't tried the ini switch, but the new build (Rev 2) only has the launcher_license.txt for me, regardless if I update via updater, upgrade by downloading the installer, or install fresh.

No Example

There's no example INI or readme. The one in other\source is only ever an example anyway and isn't used from that location. The launcher just supports a SkypePortable.ini file (same location as SkypePortable.exe) with:

[SkypePortable]
AdditionalParameters=

Same way you pass things via a shortcut you can stick em on the AdditionalParameters line. It's unsupported, but should work.

Yeah, but I thought it was

Yeah, but I thought it was standardized to have it there like all other apps.

Like I said, I threw it into the launcher while I was in there. Didn't bother with a readme or example. Not too concerned as it's not really necessary.

Thanks John...it works

Thanks John...it works perfectly again with the /minimized switch in the shortcut icon! Smile Still no readme.txt or SkypePortable.ini file but I assume that is normal for a standalone install?

I know you are a busy guy but if you could just provide a little info as to what the problem was it would be very much appreciated!

Thanks again!

6.7.59.102

hello there,

in the version I have now, 6.7.59.102
neither of these methods work, I've tried SkypePortable.ini and then making a shortcut of .exe and define /minimize parameter there, but skype is always run maximized.

It would appear that the switch is no longer supported in association with the /datapath switch. You'd need to talk to the publisher about that.
