Updates, organization.

I have my portable apps in my own folder, organised my own way, so they are not sutable for PortableApps.com Platform. It's OK, I used to use shortcuts to access them. But updating is not very comfortable though. I have to download paf file and install it over my old ver app. I thought maybe if there were an option to add portable app to PortableApps.com Platform from outer place, I could update them with it. Or maybe if there were an option while installing paf file to install also *update.exe besides *portable.exe.

Try It

Unfortunately, our updater is designed to work with apps organized in directories by their AppID (FirefoxPortable, LibreOfficePortable, etc) all contained within a single PortableApps directory (as well as adding any non-PAF apps you'd like). We will be adding the ability to add apps outside of that structure to the platform's menu, but they won't be updated by the updater. At some point, we may explore the ability to update arbitrary apps, but it's a niche feature and has no ETA.

I'd suggest trying moving your apps into the recommended structure as it makes life much easier. And, since you're using the menu, there's really not much call to explore to the directories containing the apps anyway... so does it really matter how they are organized?

Well, I guess not all people

Well, I guess not all people that use PortableApps.com Apps use PortableApps.com Platform(especially those who has 2 or 3 of them). But they sure would like to use the updater. I myself use portable google chrome not from your site because it has the updater. It's a heavy feature! I don't think it's hard to create *updater.exe, all it has to do is to check if app is running, download paf, install it and say "successfuly" Smile Well, its up to you to decide anyway.

Messy

Having updaters for every app is a bit of a disaster as you then have dozens of EXEs that need internet access that you need to approve through a software firewall and then need to be individually maintained and upgraded along with apps as changes to the updater are done. You can use the platform just when you want to update your apps as long as you keep them all in one consistent place. We have lots of folks that use something like PStart for organization but fire up the PA.c Platform (and then the updater) right from PStart to update their apps.

Side note: That Google Chrome you're using with the separate updater EXE is actually an illegal package rebundling Google Chrome in violation of the license. And it's a closed source launcher and updater, so you really don't know what it is doing.

OK, but still there is one

OK, but still there is one thing that can make my life easier, after adding the ability to add apps(PortableApps.com apps) outside of that structure to the platform's menu, please add an ability to download updated pafs for that apps. It's a bit of a disaster to visit PortableApps.com each time I have to get the update.

P.S. I have just updated DataBase Browser Portable from 3.2.2.11 to 4.1.0.0 and it crashed on start with an error. There should be some warning telling you to make a backup before the update.
