Dear users,
a couple of days ago I setted my FirefoxPortable exactly as my pc-located Firefox: I imported on FF Portable all the preferences from FF "Regular".
Now it's hard for me to immediately understand if the open window of the browser belongs to the "Regular" or to the Portable version.
Of course I could modify a little detail on one of them (change the position of a bookmark in the bookmarks toolbar, change graphical theme ecc. on one of them), or open the task manager to verify if FirefoxPortable.exe is working.
But, I wonder, is there a more elegant method? I tried to see on the "About Firefox" window, but nothing is appearing to be different between the two versions of the browser.

Are both versions installed locally? Seems you would know which icon you selected to launch the program? So I am a bit confused. I run both on my system so I can understand some confusion, but I also am cognitive which of the apps I use whether the one on desktop or on the usb key

1 little firefox addon might help, App Button Color .... make the portableapps version have a purple top left button .... find it helps myself
This App Button Color seems to be what I was searching for.
I know this issue I raised is not very severe or important, but when the two FF interfaces are very similar (in terms of buttons, Add-ons etc.), it could be not so quick to understand which of the two I am using.
This "App Button Color" is perfect: a small detail to instantly remember.
An example: imagine you suddenly need to eject the USB key, when otherwise a session of Firefox on your screen still is opened on important pages. Being able to check immediately if that session has been started through FF or FFPortable, you will also know if you have to close that before trying to eject the device, or if you can safely remove the USB key without the needing to close the windows on your screen.

p.s. Will "App Button Color" slow down Firefox?
Understanding your need for an easy identification of an opened copy of Firefox, I'd like to share what I've been using for that, beside some other reasons.
So, alongside changing the App Button's color (link #1), which is great, I've been modifying its text as well. Replacing the default text with just a single letter works for me well enough, and it saves some screen space too.

I've done the style change with a modified add-on "App Button No Text" (see link #2). Basically, this extension is just a user style script, and it can be replaced with a proper "userChrome.css" file.
I must add that I've been using the default theme for Firefox, only (on Win XP), so wouldn't know about possible conflicts when using something else.
And, another add-on I've been using successfully for changing some of Firefoxes visuals, primarily icons and titles, is the "Rebrand" extension (see link #3). Actually, it's an extension for making further extensions.
