Hi all...hoping some experts here can help! Would like this app to be portable (or run standalone from a USB stick). It dates back from 2002 and runs fine on windows 7 so isn't a very stubborn program, hoping it will be a quick fix?

Also, when the program is running if you click File > Import Assistant you get a user dialog box. There is a rather silly looking graphic on there. Is this contained in a .dll file (the same way icons are stored)? Can it be deleted / replaced? Professional piece of software ruined by somebody using Paint.exe

Yes it is commercial - but it's free. No license keys, just a straight install.
The new versions (they are on version 8 or 9 now) are charged. This is version 2002 - very old.
Is that against the rules?
Not the license keys - the actual legal license document for the application.
The licenses for many Open Source apps give permission to redistribute the applications, while closed-source and commercial licenses do not.
If this company is charging for their newer product, it is likely that they have restrictions on redistribution of older versions too.
That is why it is necessary to get permission from the company if you want to make a closed-source app portable. Without permission, no dev here would develop this.
