Claws Mail Portable 3.8.0cvs6 Development Test 3

Application: Claws Mail
Category: Internet
Description: Claws Mail is an email client (and news reader), based on GTK+.

The appearance and interface are designed to be familiar to new users coming from other popular email clients, as well as experienced users. Almost all commands are accessible with the keyboard.

The messages are managed in the standard MH format, which features fast access and data security. You'll be able to import your emails from almost any other email client, and export them just as easily.

Lots of extra functionality, like an RSS aggregator, calendar, or laptop LED handling, are provided by extra plugins.

Claws Mail is distributed under the GPL.

Not the latest?

The main site says the latest version is 3.7.9. Is there a reason against using that version?

Nope

Source and Linux is 3.7.9. The Windows build is built by another party and generally lags the source/linux builds. 3.7.8 is the latest Windows build.

Sometimes, the impossible can become possible, if you're awesome!

You are both right.

When I downloaded the windows build on April 6th from http://www.claws-mail.org/win32 3.7.8cvs63 was the most recent version, which I used to create the potableapp on April 11th; meanwhile there is also a version 3.7.9 available for windows.
Since the application only uses %APPDATA% for configuration and storage, it should be easy to update once this portableapp leaves beta and is recognized as stable.

Great!

I must admit to being quite a fan of ClawsMail, having found it after going through pretty well every possibly portable IMAP email client known to man, and I think it's pretty good. Boshuda, youve done something I'd thought about for a while, so thank you!

Thanks, but beware of bug!

You are very welcome, but be careful it's my very first portable app and I already missed the "Mail" folder in %APPDATA%, which is created by Claws Mail additionally to the "claws-mail" folder when using POP3. A new development test (with version 3.7.9) is on the way.

Some more out of the portable dir things and others

Greetings!

Just testing your creation 3.8.0cvs6 version. It seems that there are a few issues with the defaults.

It seems that the default signature also taken from the system, probably:
%appdata%\signature.txt

There are some issues with the languages too. (I can not find an option to change the UI language other than the systems'. would be fine.)

I also tried to figure out what to change to use local mailbox (instead of the /var/mail/%username% on the first settings wizard.

It would make it a decent tool to open such files from read only media (CD\DVD) and run this app in "live mode" (to open CD\DVD archives with included with this) {hidden feature request with a nifty smile... B-) }

If there are some points above which are more Claws-mail related then 'portabilization' (I hope it is a verb) related then support me some links where they can be bothered to move forward on the task!

Anyhow! I wish the best and keep up with this magnificent project!

Still active?

Are you still working on ironing out the bugs? This would be a great portable app to have!

Fingers crossed!
