GIMP logoGIMP Portable 2.8.0 Rev 3 has been released. GIMP Portable is the full-featured GIMP image and photo editor bundled with a launcher as a portable app, so you can edit your photos and images on the go. This release updates GIMP to the latest version. The GIMP Portable Photoshop Layout add-on is also available. It's packaged in Format so it can easily integrate with the Platform. Best of all, it's open source and completely free.

Revision 2 fixes an issue with font cache being left behind and improves speed of second launches on the same PC.

Revision 3 ensures that the old single window plugin is removed to prevent close issues.

Update automatically or install from the portable app store in the Platform.

ScreenshotThe GIMP (GNU Image Manipulation Program) is a freely distributed program for such tasks as photo retouching, image composition and image authoring. It has many capabilities. It can be used as a simple paint program, an expert quality photo retouching program, an online batch processing system, a mass production image renderer, an image format converter, etc. Learn more about the GIMP...

The *NEW* GIMP Portable Photoshop Layout

ScreenshotAs seen in the screenshot, the GIMP Portable Photoshop Layout changes the layout of the right-hand toolbox and enables GIMP's single window mode to more closely approximate the layout of Adobe Photoshop, making GIMP easier to use for users already familiar with that layout. Installer / Format

GIMP Portable is packaged in a Installer so it will automatically detect an existing installation when your drive is plugged in. It's packaged in the Format, so it automatically works with the Platform including the Menu and Backup Utility.

GIMP Portable is available for immediate download from the GIMP Portable homepage. Get it today!

Story Topic:

i've been waiting for this since the TEST releases Smile

GIMP rules... it works better than Photoshop in some instances.
i.e. BMP w/ alpha, SVG format, etc..

THANKS !!!!!

I've thought there will be another huge delay, but finally it's released!

Good Morning,

I installed Gimp on my USB stick this morning, and My Symantec AV picked up two files on heuristic scan.

file-compressor.exe and imagemap.exe were both quarantined. Does this seem like a false positive?

We've posted a quick update the fixes an issue with font cache being left behind on the local machine and improved the speed of secondary launches on the same PC as well.

Rev 3 ensures the old GIMP Portable Background Window plugin is removed as it causes issues with shutting down 2.8 and up.

Please post a bug report with as many details as possible (install location, new vs upgrade, operating system, exact steps to reproduce) in the GIMP Support Forum and start the title with [Bug] so we can track it down for you.

I've tested, in my home computer with a locally instaled copy of gimp and the cage tool has the same problem so probably it's not a portable apps related problem. Do i report it in the support forums or not?

Since this happens with the installed version as well, please report it as a bug to the developers of GIMP, rather than here.

Though this portable release contains, just like the installable version, the Python interpreter pre-installed, however its GUI neither provides the Python-Fu console nor recognizes the scripts/plugins written in this language that are placed in the appropriate directories, whereas there is not this kind of problem with the classic setup version instead.

Please post a note in the GIMP Support forum as noted above so we can track this down for you.

The "Details"-link on the Photoshop lyaout page links to the details of the Gimp portable page instead of to its own download details.
