idea: Encrypting portable apps menu or individual apps for security and protection.
The other day i was thinking what would happen if i lost my portableapps flash drive. all my accounts and user settings would be open for anyone to use.
my ideas are to have.
- password protection: option to setup password protection in the settings, with encryption for extra extra protection.
- first boot login: nice window prompting to put password to unlock menu or protected apps for that session.
Is there a way to achieve protection in the menu or individual apps. i would like to know.
I am not sure if this has been discussed here or not. thanks for anyone who is able to help me.
Please search.
This has been discussed multiple times with the same outcome: adding password protection to the menu will do very little for you. Your safest bet is to use a hardware solution like an IronKey.
Ok now you mention it i do think that the menu would not solve this as people would buypass the menu and just go to folder /portableapps and run the apps that way.
Iron key you say. ok i will check that in forums now.
An Old Irish Blessing
May the road rise up to meet you. May the wind always be at your back. May the sun shine warm upon your face, and rains fall soft upon your fields. And until we meet again, May God hold you in the palm of His hand.

I use the latest beta of Toucan to encrypt user files on my USB. I put all relevant user data files in a documents folder and encrypt that each time I close down. The program's themselves stay accessible, but not my sensitive data.
