The computers I would be using Portable Apps on has blocked the use of .EXEs and .BATs. Is there any way to run the application with a .JAR file because I know these aren't blocked.

I think I read a while ago that you can convert the launchers into msi's and that run them like normal on machines that restrict executable files.
http://www.symantec.com/connect/downloads/exe-msi
https://portableapps.com/apps/utilities/java_portable_launcher
work fine

Just tell the owner of the machines that you don't care about their stupid rules and restrictions, that you're going to find away around them. That will impress them.

I just need to run this. I tried running from inside a .zip (how i installed it) but that doesn't work. Can't see another way round this. I tried that .msi thing but I don't get what I am doing. It doesn't let me select the start.exe to convert. Please Help!!! I'm stuck with Internet Explorer and it is hell!
I probably should have read that site first; it looks like it only works for a specific file in a specific package...
Anyway, it doesn't look like that method will work because this other tool (which did what I thought the first one would do) makes the msi file alright, but the paths to the portable app files are lost due to the way that msi files work, so that's of no use.
Well thanks for the suggestion. Every little helps!
This is the message that comes up when I run the start.exe in a zipped folder:
"Could not find
C:\Users\*Name*\AppData\Local\Temp\Temp1_exes.zip\PortableApps\PortableApps.com\PortableAppsPlatform.xe."
If you can help I would be grateful.
Running programs from a ZIP archive is very much an unsupported behaviour. You should not expect any app to work from a ZIP archive.

How might I go about running the .EXE then? I know it is not good to do it like that but I managed to install it that way.
It's been blocked. Don't try to get around it. If you do, you're likely to get in trouble if detected. Instead, ask for the removal of the restriction.
