Some sort of database software similar to the OpenBase part of OpenOffice.
You know for a standalone.

The Kazoo Spartan
you know the stuff Access has, Reports, Queries, Tables, etc.
So why not use OpenOffice.org Base then? The whole OpenOffice.org Portable Suite is about the same size as MS Access.

Well, I am not just doing this for me but for other people, besides, some people just prefer standalones, OpenOffice is a suite, and some people might have a need for database software and not presentation, spread sheet software or a word processor.
Besides I like standalones a little better in some cases.
It's really only a size issue in the case of OpenOffice.org. Its word processor is on par with Word and more full-features than AbiWord (of course, AbiWord is supposed to be lightweight... that's its niche, 90% of the features in about 10% of the space). Its spreadsheet is on par with Excel and more full-featured and polished than Gnumeric. Its presentation tool is pretty good... though not quite up to Powerpoint... maybe 90% of the way. And its database is supposed to be pretty solid, though I haven't done much with it myself.
Some folks have this irrational aversion to suites. But when it comes to picking the best tool for the job, counting something out just because it's a suite is kinda silly. Especially since you can ditch the other icons from it and just use OpenOffice.org Base, essentially treating it as a standalone... and taking up about the same size as MS Access.

I came across an alternative yesterday. It is called Kexi. It is part of the KOffice Suite. Fortunately a windows version is also available although it is classed as a demo.

Dependent on there been no restrictions etc with it then this may have potential for the likes of Espreon, if it can be made portable. The windows version is under the LGPL http://www.gnu.org/copyleft/lesser.html
