Toucan deletes original files

Dear Forum

I just got two times the worst case I can have with a backup-Program.
I started toucan to mirrer the C-Drive to an external HDD.
The preview showed how the Files on the C-Drive will be added to the external HDD.
However, while running Toucan, it crashed (avira showed an error Message, some autorun didn't start) and started to delete all files from the C-Drive. Even though it should only copy the files, isn't it?

Is there any help for me? I didn't read this error in any of the forums. Any experiences?

Best Regards,
Beni

That sucks,

First off, try to recover your files with a program like Recuva. It works wonders. There might even be a portable version on this forum somewhere.

I don't know much about the inner workings of toucan, but can you give a more elaborate description? Like, what where your settings, which version of Toucan are you using, what was the precise Avira message, windows version, etc.
That way, the more knowledgeable folks here, might be able to help you better.

more details

Sorry about my short description... recuva is up and running and I was able to recover some of the files.

Once I was using Windows Vista home professional and once Win7 Professional. On the first, I tried to close a Toucan Window, the program crashed and I forced quit it but by then the damage already happened.
On Win7 Professional Avira showed some message about an outorun which was not allowed to start, Toucon printed some error-Message that it couldn't access some files (all in some tmp-directory, not really necessary to me), then crashed and by the time I force quit the program there were already 30GB deleted.
Using the most recent version of Toucan (3.0.4), mirroring the internal to an external drive.

Any more information needed?
Regards,
Beni

This

is very odd, I don't think I have ever heard of something similar happening. Firstly I apologies that this could happen at all! I would suggest using the latest pre-release version of Toucan which is actually very stable and available here.

Do you have Avira on both machines? Also when you say crash do you mean you saw the Windows Error Reporting Dialog, or the GUI simply froze?

i'm Sorry, I can't test the software anymore, since I'm quite sure my boss would fire me immediately if I ever going to use this software again...

Avira was installed on both machines. However, the Toucan-window froze and I had to force-Quit the application, after I realized, that Toucan is deleting my files... I hope this was not a mistake from my side.
