Lets say I have Thunderbird Portable and Firefox Portable. Both works fine. At least when both apps are running. When I click links (www.justexample.com) in Thunderbird it calls another FFoxPortable window. Great. When I click a file test.html on my desktop - it works the same way.
Now, I shut down FireFoxPortable. Click again test.html on my desktop or www.justexample.com in external application. Firefox opens, but bypassing "portable" loader and I got wrong profile.
It is unconvinient a little bit. So - I found some solution - Portable File Associator. I set htm|html|shtml|shtm|xhtm|xtml association to firefoxportable.exe %1 and now I can click *.html file on my desktop and it works OK. Even if FFPortable is closed.
But still - trying to Open FF Portable when it is closed from link in Thunderbird (or miranda, skype etc) doesn't work. I mean works but without FFPortable loader.
Is it just my lack of knowledge? Or I should live with it.
Any suggestions will be apreciated. TIA

No help? No suggestion? Maybe it is not FF isue and I should post it to general discussion about PortableApps? Or add some other explanation?
You can to set Thunderbird to prompt you like any other app when you click on a link by doing the following:
1. Click Firefox and then Options
2. Select the Advanced Tab and click Config Editor
3. In the filter, enter: network.protocol-handler.warn-external.http
4. Set both of these to true:
- network.protocol-handler.warn-external.http > true
- network.protocol-handler.warn-external.https > true
5. Close and click OK
Then when you click a link, it should prompt you. Select FirefoxPortable.exe wherever it is. The path will be portablized by the launcher as you move around.
Sometimes, the impossible can become possible, if you're awesome!

Little correction in point 1. Click TB, not FF
And this works perfect - after first prompt I choose FFPortable. So everything is OK with Thunderbird. It covers about 9/10 of my every day use.
But still - I am sure, there should be more common way to set ALL apps (Skype, Miranda, OpenOffice etc) to call Firefoxportable properly.
