[Closed] - firefox portable 13 - no content in new tab view

I was using the Firefox beta 13 for a while so I thought that maybe the function was not working as like being still tested.

New tab is now supposed to show you 'thumbnails' of web pages like Opera.

Updated portable Firefox 12 to 13 today and that feature still shows blank thumbnails.

I have installed normal (not portable) copy of Firefox 13 also updated from normal Firefox 12 and the new tab feature shows the thumbnails.

Any other user of Firefox portable 13 seeing this (or not seeing - ha ha)?

Happy days,

Hugh

As Stated

As stated on the app page and in the announcement:

New Tab Thumbnails: New tab thumbnails will appear blank as the disk cache in Firefox Portable is disabled by default. This is due to performance reasons as enabling disk cache on flash drives will often cause Firefox to run much more slowly. You can enable cache within Options if you would like.

The thumbnails require disk cache be enabled and not cleared on exit to function properly.

Sometimes, the impossible can become possible, if you're awesome!

Dear John,

Thank you very much. I did not see the quoted material, and here I must believe myself to be going blind, as I read that page looking for known issues and found none that related to my warning note in the forum to other users.

Thank you and Happy days,

Hugh

NOT working

Hello,

this is not working for me, my new tab page in Firefox is still empty (no thumbnails of my web pages).
I have my portable apps on a HDD, so I can enable the cache.

I have Firefox 13.0 with the German GUI.
So I translated all menu-entries in Firefox from German to English.

To enable the disk cache, is this in the Options of Firefox, Tab "Extended" (the last tab), sub-tab "Network", the option "Disable Automatic Cache Management"?
No matter what I select here, no thumbnails are shown.

Greetings

OLLI

Automatic

I believe you need to set it to automatic and be sure clear on exit is off. Then restart it. They should still be blank. Then visit each page a couple times to ensure it is properly cached. THEN it should work. If not, restart it again. The local version is wonky, too.

Make sure overiding automatic

Make sure overiding automatic cache management is checked and you have a value greater that around 15 MB (estimate). You will then have to open a page and leave it open for 5 seconds. Restart, and it should be in the new tab page with a thumbnail.

Other reason

Hello,

in an other forum (German Firefox Forum) I found the solution of my problem:

Some settings in the "Privacy" tab (hope privacy is the correct name).

this worked for me: go to

this worked for me:
go to about:config, and reset entry [browser.cache.disk.enable] to 'true';
you might also want to reset some other 'cache' related entries, sorry i forgot if they are necessary.
