many thanks for you very fast answer.
Hi TBP folks,
I am not sure if the culprit is TB 13, but it also seems to me
that after the automatic update to 13, my TB is severely damaged.
As I boot it from Patriot USB key (64GB) under Windows Vista Biz
on my Toshiba Dynabook SS (RX1/T7A), the following warning shows
up in about 5 minutes.
WARNING! UNRESPONSIVE SCRIPT
(?) A script on this page may be busy, or it may have stopped
responding. You can stop the script, or you can continue to see
if the script will complete.
SCRIPT: resource://moduled/dbViewWrapper.js:279
[Continue] or [Stop script]
As I click [Continue], the same warning keeps showing up every 5
minutes or so about 6 to 7 times. Then, after half hour, the window finally shows
up. But when I try to open sub-foloders, most of the sub-windows
have no list of emails shown, and the small ring just keeps
spinning, indicating it's searching something or in an infinite
loop.
I don't know if TB13 is the cause, but my PC freezes frequently
(like once every half hour) now.
I did thorough disk clean up, defragging, scan disk, and
diagnosis, and found the system to be quite healthy.
I urgently need to recover from this problem, as I have all of my
biz correspondence in this TB.
I should probably go back to TB12. May I ask you in order to
confirm?
When I re-install TB12, can I simply execute the downloaded file
to direct it to the sub-directory on my USB key, where the
current TB resides?
Or, do I have to install TB12 from scratch? If so, may I ask how to
reload the emails and addresses from the current TB?
Thanks in advance.
Dr.Mu
As no one else is experience this and I myself use it just fine daily, there is something up with your install. It could be a corrupted mailbox file, corruption on the flash drive, a slow/dying flash drive, a misbehaving extension, etc. I would suggest starting it in safe mode and disabling things and working out the issue.
If this were an overall problem with Thunderbird, we'd get hundreds of reports. Your specific error has been reported by people using the local version of Thunderbird 12 on Linux as well, so it is not specific to the portable version.
Your duplicate topic was deleted as per policy.

Hi John,
Thanks for your input.
May I ask what you mean by "LOCAL VERSION of TB12"? I simply got it from the URL you or someone in the forum posted in this section.
If there's a global version, could you point me to where I can find it.
All of the mailbox files were working to begin with until V12 was automatically update to V13. The USB key is brand new, and I did "scan disk," "defrag" and "disk clean-up," and confirmed no problem.
How could "MISBEHAVING EXTENSION" happen? Do you mean mal-ware sneaked in and replaced the extension?
If the problem is not SPECIFIC TO TBP, are you suggesting it's intrinsic to the TB source? Or, are you insisting there's no problem in either TBP or TB source?
Thanks for educating me.
Kind Regards.
Dr.Mu
I'm saying there are reports of this exact same issue on all operating systems even using regular Thunderbird (NOT portable) 12.0. It is a rather generic error that occurs when something runs away with itself. It is not specific to 13.0 and I'm unaware of anyone but you experiencing it in TBP 13.0. So, it would appear to be something specific to your setup.
Again, I would check the usual suspects. Drive corruption. Mailbox corruption. And misbehaving extensions. Sometimes and extension itself can get corrupt or work fine in 12.0 but get hung on 13.0. You'll need to start in safe mode (start ThunderbirdPortable.exe with a -safe-mode parameter) and then disable all your extensions then restart and enable them one at a time to determine which.

John,
I am simply requesting you make the 12 to 13 update optional among [Update now], [Later] and [No thanks], rather than AUTOMATIC, so I can at least cope with the current problem until I find a solution.
Kind Regards,
Dr.Mu
It is optional. When the updater window appears, deselect TB in the list and it will not update.
Otherwise, the updater does not yet have the functionality to remember an unwanted update, although I believe it is on the list of coming features.
