Hi Folks
I'm having trouble with Win7 wanting to run Portable Apps as Administrator.
With the launcher named as Start.exe, Win7 wants to run it as Administrator and applies a little shield to the launcher icon on my USB stick. If I rename it as anything else, i.e. "Start1.exe" or "PortableApps.exe", there's no problem.
Also, I often run Portable Apps on my work PC and I don't want to see the PortableApps icon appear on my taskbar (kind of shouts "Look at me, I'm being a naughty boy and running non corporate-approved software!" whenever anyone glances at my screen), so historically I've set it to run in compatibility mode as Windows XP SP3 which hides the icon from the taskbar but shows it in the system tray. Now whenever I do that Win7 tries to run it as Administrator again.
Both of these are only recent changes that have started with PortableApps 10.
What's going on? Is this an effort by Microsoft to hobble PortableApps?
Many thanks!
JTHM
Can't really say for your first issue, I run it on three different Win7 PCs without seeing this issue.
Regarding hiding the taskbar icon in Win7, try this.
Thanks for help with the line in the .ini file. I didn't realise those tweaks existed.
I guess the first issue's not a biggee either and must local to my company's environment, after all, all I have to do is rename the launcher whenever there's an update to anything but "start.exe" and all is good again.
